remove all three bolts, SPRAY THE adjuster bolt with PB BLASTER!!! careful on this one, it WILL BREAK EASY!
the heat shield on the USA EGR setup is in the way on most cars, not on the 116 setup I think (since there is no egr I think)
outer and inner bolts need removal, middle bolt can just be loosened I think. take the bracket and all, don't try to get the alt out of the bracket in the car.

How long does it take to R&R an alternator?
It is really easy. I just took mine out. It was one of the first parts I have ever taken off of a car by myself (other than glow plugs and the oil pan), and it took me less than an hour. This included trying to figure out how the heck to get the tensioner bolt out of the little bracket thingie. I don't expect that putting it back in will take more than 20 min, even for a clumsy noob.

In that DIY by Douglas.Sherida, I see it explains taking off the mounting bracket and moving a bunch of stuff out of the way. I didn't have to do that. I just took out the two bolts holding on the alternator. Is it that different in a 126? Or is it that my pulley was loose? The nut fell off the shaft on mine (the reason for the R&R), so maybe getting the alternator off wasn't impeded by the belts (?).

Am I going to have to take the bracket off to get the new one (with nut and pulley) back on?

Starter motors are for wimps I thought you could tow start an automatic. Glow put it in N tow to not sure mph glow again bang it in D and off you go.
If you lived in Boston you wouldn't need breaks or indicators so the alternator would be unnecessary also
Cheers
Adrian
