I've gone all the way now. :>)

I now own nothing but MB's diesels.

Traded the Dodge Magnum & Jeep CRD in for a nice one owner E320 CDI that is well equipped to say the least. Even got a long as I own it powertrain warranty, for what ever that is worth.

A wise move dumping the Magnum and the Jeep.
I don't think I could sleep at night with that car if it didn't have that warranty!
And not so long ago you had 0 Mercedes. I don't guess the CDI reminds you much of your old 240D....

Well there were several reasons why I had decided to get rid of both cars. The Jeep CRD was limited to 2 year production run, with a lot of service problems from Chrysler Corp for the Italian diesel. It has some major design flaws that are having to be worked out by owners and not dealers, so much so that I was getting leary of ownership. Finally the value of the Jeep CRD has dropped like a rock due to only two year use of the VM diesel and may drop even more with MB and Chrysler split.

The Dodge Magnum and the other LX cars were/are MB clones with lots of off the shelf MB parts and was a great car. However with the split of Chrysler and MB I was left wondering again about parts and service and retained value of the car.

All that said these vehicles could become quite sought after and valuable due to the split, but I decided it was not worth the worry or chance. I am too old to be in that game, so I decided I would trade them for a new MB. Problem was I could not find a new R320CDI and I was not real sold on the particulate filters and wondered how reliable the V6 would be compaired to the 5 & 6 cyl engines they have been building for years. I happened to say something to that effect to the salesman and the rest is history.

Congrats!

I sold my Bimmer gasser tonight. The E300TD is now my official daily driver...even though it's been serving in that capacity for six weeks or more already.

Cheers, John

I've got three...

They're all W126.
They're all diesel.
They're all 3.0 liter OM603's.
They all have ~ 300K miles each.
They all have #14 heads.

Used to play around with an '85 280SEL (Euro), '89 560SL, '97 E420, and '90 300SE.

I just like the diesels better.

No it is nothing like the 240D, and I thought the 91 300D was quick.

I bet it feels weird when you have a diesel that can chirp its outside tire from a straight line at WOT.

The 7-speed in the Bluetec makes for an even messier start.

That was something else I was not too sure of, a tranny always looking for a better gear.

Trust me no loss. I had a Dodge Charger and it was one of the worst built POS i have ever seen. I am about to drop a Mercedes OM617.951 into my Land Rover so enough said. If Mercedes built a Diesel truck in the US (Other then the MOG) then i would buy one of those as well, but alas it will be a F250 7.3L for me.
Now my wife......maybe a nice Diesel MB for her soon.
