Does anyone have a step by step procedure for removing the cooling fan shroud on a 1983 300D. It appears to be 1 piece with a cutout at bottom right - wondering if the blades will pull through that cut out.
I am going to replace the fan clutch and would rather not have to remove the radiator - looks simple enough, but don't want to get everything unbolted then find the fan can't pass by the shroud |

the shroud should have been one piece originally. If there is a cutout it was probably done to get it out for such a job. The clutch job might be easier if you remove the radiator, and the rad is a pretty simple removal.

The shroud is held in place by slots in the bottom of the rad in which bayonet plungers attached to the shroud slide down into. ON the top it is held by a rubber spacer folded over and a metal clip that just pushes down over the rubber. To get it completely off I think you have to remove something else like the fan blade.
It is so simple once you figure it out you will just chuckle. Tom W
