First things first. The 300K is on the 1989 Jetta. In the bottom picture, with the green '89 Jetta, you can see my '06 GLI in the background.

With regards to the license plate: It had a personalized plate. I saw it with my own eyes when I bought the car. That metal VIN stamping that is on top of the books and keys in one of the photos I posted is given to the original owner and includes the sale date, car information, and what not. The name on that plate was the same name as the guy I bought the car from.

The car is great, I love driving it. Let the fixing, polishing, and bettering begin!

Cervan, you said that I would love the way the 300D cruises...you couldn't have been more right.

Thanks to ALL who have had kind things to say and who have been supportive and helpful.
Well the funny thing is i dont even own a 300d, i own a 240d. And i can tell you from 1 years experience take the 300d lol ive been in a few 300d's when they were well cared for, the 240d would give a bad reputation allmost to the luxuries of the flagship 300d. (now thats not to say the 240d isnt a good car, its just not a 300d.)

Congrats on your new Cremepuff! and by the way, dont switch to WVO or SVO (god please not lovercraft) it will cause more problems than good, just put number 2 in it and change the oil every 4 thousand miles it will be a good happy car for you.

Worry not. I wasn't considering it in the slightest.

In other news - calculated my first MPG yesterday - approx. 26 MPG combined. Love it.

Try http://**************.com for a repair kit. I have one, the car I was going to install it on has since passed away.

Congrats, looks good. Suggest you don't take a ride in a 126, you'll be on the lookout for another MB!

Oh, believe you me, the W126 300SD has been on my radar for some time now, but I liked this car, and it was right for my current price range. A W126 300SD with working A/C is hard to find - heck, any older MB with working A/C is hard to find.

For what it's worth, my great aunt has a 1986 420SEL with an original 48,000 miles on it. I drove it two weeks ago - wow. That's pretty much all I can say - wow.

Not to mention owners manuals in German AND also in English, in the glovebox along with the records, and four keys.

Amazingly, it was purchased from a charity auction where it had been donated
last month, by a curbstoner seeking to resell for a fast profit...

Normally, the absolute WORST way to buy a car imaginable. Most auction donated cars are one step from the junkyard and curbstoners the worst possible cheaters and sellers.

Yet a huge chance was taken. And the buyer hit the jackpot.

Proving yet again, the very best Mercedes Benz cars of this vintage are surely to be found in sunny Southern California, home of the car culture and where the owners and their mechanics love their cars and really take care of them......

Sometimes, when your head and heart speak to you, about something like this, it really pays to listen.....
It is a nice car!

You forgot the working AC & sunroof.
Actually everything seems to work
but I haven't tried the windshield wipers or wash yet...

Car hails from south of Malibu Lake
& I can only hope it had all the things it needed even though
it was only used 300 miles in last 4 years as evidenced by smog mileage

I took a chance on the car & I think I got lucky
Didn't know the area it came from or that the man was a DR til after I had bought the car & was looking thru the scant records doing research.
I was pleased with my discovery as its likely that a Dr's wife's car would be maintained well & we all know how important that can be.

No manuals in German
There are 2 US
A 83 380 SE SEC as the 500 was not sold in US in 83
A 84 380/500 SE SEC

Some records in maint book
but it cuts off about 89

Same owner since at least 87 & the maint books would seem to reflect since 84 as there they r recorded in maint book seviced in same location.

Orig Mercedes tool kit in red flannel & first aid kit too...
Limited slip differential

Car runs strong n smooth but lil hot
Thermostat was changed & motor mounts by Enrique.

Still running a bit hot
& haven't gotten a chance to take it out as this week we have had the 105 heatwave...

Hey that 300D sounds great too
26 mpg
Now that's nice

They say CA cars are the best

Do you have the instructions for that kit? Could it be scanned and emailed?
