1996 E330D stalling

I am having a problem with my 1996 E300D.
At times when I am waiting at a light the car dies, it does not give any warning, no rough idling, nothing it just quits with no warning.
Also recently I was making a turn and slowed to make the turn and it quit half way around the turn.
I can restart it no problem but why is it quitting.

Sounds like either a shutoff valve problem or the relay that powers it.

You didnt mention any CEL lit up?

Have you ever repalced the K40 relay in the computer box? It's #56 in the righthand (Pass) apparatus box. Front most item. Take about 15 minutes to repalce. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=210020&M=606%2E912&GA=722%2E438722%2E600&GM=717%2E446&CT=F&cat=45P&SID=54&SGR=080&SGN=04

cel

I have a intermittent check engine light on but it is reading a code for a glow plug PO380.
When I add Lucas fuel additive the CEL light goes off but when the fuel runs low it comes back on again.

When the car quits the glow plug light flickers for a second just before it quits .
Could this be related ??.

Now it is sounding like an electrical problem. Is the K40 module original?

That code occurs when the computer notes that a start occured or was attempted, with cold GP's.

It commonly occurs during no start conditions when the auto start feature fails to start the engine the first time and the operator doesnt let it glow before turning key a second time. Also occurs if the engine was just started, dies and operator tries to start again w/o glowing in colder temps.

You are probably the culprit based on your description of the car dieing in the morning in traffic, etc.

PO380 will turn itself off after 3 hot/cold run cycles w/o the fault occuring again. On a daily driver that is usually 1.5 trips to work.

The light coming on when the car quits is what concerns me. The electrical supply may be being momentarily interrupted by the K40 module or something else. If that happens and the glow plugs think they should cycle, you may get that code.

Thats a good point Matt. The buzzer for my steak went off as I was responding and I missed reading that.

That CEL is not related to the fuel additive.....

I would def start with the K40 relay. Is cheap, easy and overdue if it hasn't been replaced previously.
