Air conditioning /wiring problem???????
Symptoms.....driving car with air con on. Loss of air con and resulting warm rush of air. No smell of burned wiring. Now neither heat or air is running. No blown fuses. Central dash heating/air control unit replaced and no difference. Blower motor does not run now. Wires to air con compressor under hood intact. Wires to monovalve functioning and clean. Haven't had time to check much else.
Any body got any ideas? Regards, Run-Em

Seems like you might have two separate issues, but I could be wrong about that.
The rush of warm air might be a failed mono valve. When mine failed (diaphragm tore), it defaulted to full heat. Blower motor might be simply tired or worn out. On my '82, I pulled mine and rehabbed it a few times before finally replacing it. A multimeter set to DC volts will help you diagnose the blower problem in short order. I can't remember now how I diagnosed the monovalve. I'm sure I read about it here, though!

This is almost certainly a fuse issue.
I'll look up the specific fuse to change when I get back to the office. For the blower and the a/c to cease function with two different CCU's is just too much of a coincidence for any other solution. Naturally, I'll bet that you didn't replace any fuses.............??? |

New owners of these old cars should clean the contacts and replace all the fuses in the box as a matter of course. I had all kinds of problems 'till I took the advice here and did that. Made all the difference in the world.
