If you want a used 3.5L short-block, I have one here I'll sell cheap, pistons aren't tilted, PM me.

The 3.5L is good and bad. Develops good torque, flatter power curve, which is good for takeoff but ultimately it has less power.

The 3.0L has more power and more RPM. If you pull a 3.0 for the car, it would preferrably be from a 126 not a 124 so that the oil filter, oil sump, and mounts etc. are correct. Also, your 3.5 has a newer head design, front cover design, vacuum pump possibly, swap whatever is good to the 3.0L.

It's a matter of preference. I'd rather be in a slow 140 than a fast 126.

606 doesn't need a lot of mods since you have a 3.5 to supply conversion parts. Your 3.5 IP is the key to to making it work with minimal fabrication.

I don't know whether it's rebuildable but the EPC lists cylinder liners. IIRC the liners in the block don't press out. You have to turn down the cylinders to take new liners.

It requires mounting an intercooler.

Oops, yes.

There's quite a bit of room in a 140 bumper so fitting an IC is is not the biggest challenge. Finding a 606 with intact IC is a bigger challenge.

And of course there's fitting a pressure wastegate actuator in place of the vacuum unit but you'd probably want to do that to a 140 SD anyway.

I wonder if this 300SD with 353,000 miles is an exception to all of the other bad ones I have been hearing about? Hmm?

bah! Dealers! Give all the information we could care less about, and nothing about the history of the car. I think they say AS IS enough times to scare any long distance buyer away.

This ad is making me very angry for some reason.

Perhaps it was replaced under warranty.

They don't all go bad. I'm sure better than half don't develop engine problems. A 20% or even 10% failure rate is horrendous enough to raise the stink we're raising.

Keen eye! I looked for something mentioned about the engine, but did not see it! I guess I overlooked it... lol!

So, maybe the original engine lasted to 320K?

Well, it says "NEW ENGINE" in large type, so hopefully its a brand new engine, but I would say a new engine for one of these would be more than his BIN price of $6500?

Could be a used one with 150K and will bend a rod 10K from now. UNLESS its one of those that Sixto mentioned and will not have the problem. Lets hope so for the new owner anyway.

FWIW, I read a post on here somewhere that these are not rebuildable.

I believe Marshall Teague said that about half end up bending rods.

Forced injection said they're not rebuildable. He is usually right but I think in this case it depends on the details of the engine and its condition.....

I would not do it in any case. I would take the good parts mentioned above off the 3.5 and use a 3.0 shortblock.

And I'd take the 3.5 block and tie a rope to it and hook it onto my boat!

He said it about three years ago.

I knew he was gone.....but his expertise lives on in the internet!
