Oil Filters

OK, I'm looking over some of oil filters over at ***************, and there's four different brands:

Mann ($8.81)
Bosch ($7.51)
Hengst ($7.51)
Full ($5.53)

Seeing as they're all pretty reasonably priced, which one is best, or are they all pretty much the same?

I personally vote for the Bosch (I use it.)

Don't know which is "Best" but I've got no complaints with that one.

depending on your car.....NONE of the above.

Get the Fram CH2930 made in turkey from you local parts store. All those filters (even for the 603) are filled with cotten gin , floor sweepings, twigs, and other garbage not meant to be in a FILTER!

The Fram CH2930 (specifically made in turkey) have cotten string packed tight with no floor sweepings or any other trash like the filters you listed above.

If you have a 603 motor your only alternative is the wix filter which is a solid filter element not a bypass/filter element like oem.

Mine is a 617... Fram CH2930? A Fram filter is better than a Bosch or a Mann? OK, I'll give it a try, as I can pick one up at the local autozone. Cool, thanks for the tip.

If the link still worked you would be in for a surprise. The first evidence of floor sweepings, twigs, and cotten gin was in a hengst filter. Unfortunatley the link isnt working anymore but just cut open your filter at the next oil change and youll see how much junk is in it.

Here was the junk i found in a MANN filter:

If you look closley you can see the pine needles, they found their way out of the lower filter element and into the oil filter housing!!!

no holes in filter

About 4 yrs ago I ordered a dozen oil filters, this way I always have them on the shelf when ever I need them.

The filters were Hengst, half of the filters were ok but about 6 of them had no holes in the canister.

Found the problem when I got back home from a trip to Salt Lake City, Ut
from here in Calif. when I pulled the filter the sides of it were sucked in.
so the only oil going through it were in the short bottom section.

Well at the time I didn`t notice there were no holes in the sides. replaced the filter with another from my stash. decided to check after a few 100 miles. same thing, sides sucked in. then I noticed there were only the dimples in the metal, no holes. I had about 6 that were that way.

Don`t know if any engine damage was done because of this, I probably went another 100000 miles.

I was using Mann filters until I found a piece of filter debris that had been forced into the little bypass orifice of the filter stem.

I've not found any 603 or 603 filters without the bypass section, ... the Knecht made in Austria is what I've been buying, from a local parts store, seems well made.

Pimp Boyz carry the 617 Fram unit. They have a special at times too, I think it's buy one get one free or something. They have the 603 Fram in their book, but it's special order.
