HELP OR SUGGESTIONS ??(greatly appreciated)
Just got a new set of GP's from Kragen(Autolite) after pulling my old ones which were pencil-type. Tried testing each one individually on the pos terminal, not one got even warm... Then tried same on different car that has brand new battery, same thing...
Then tried the new ones to see if they would glow ----NOTHING!!!! Not even warm.
Any help/suggestion? I don't want to put in the new ones unless I can get them to glow hot.

Hey Mcturbo Carpas- this thread is about the lights- you gotta start a new thread to ask about your glow plugs. After market euro lights tend to put more light on the road than the USA DOT lights, but are not near the quality of the Hella/Bosch. Of course they are much cheaper. Better lighting for less $ go with the Katmac or Depo or used Bosch. The first one's with the LED's are a Benzworld ricer dream.

No upgrade needed... They are the euro lights so they have a slightly different connector.. The ones I bought came with the new connector. Just swap over the wiring and there you go...

Well, I took the super cheap route, after reading around here on the forum, and looking on ebay....I got a set of the autopal E-codes that fit into the existing assemblies. Only $41 shipped for two lenses + bulbs. I will probably outfit them with 100/80 watt bulbs and call it good. Should be a substantial increase in light output over my 55watt sealed beams. At least I hope it is. It'd have to be, with an extra 50 watts on the road + a better beam pattern. I am skipping the clear corners for now too....I may just look for a newer used orange Bosch marker for the left to replace the faded one so it looks better. I get new lights for less than $50! My wallet won this time.

be sure they arent plastic lenses, those 100W bulbs will melt the lens easily from the heat they produce!!!...........just ask me how i know

Id suggest you put HID's in there instead. they will take less drain on the electrical system (35w) and they produce less heat then 55w halogens!

They come with 60/55 Ultra Blue H4's.....I'll try those out first to see how they light up the road. If they're good I'll just use those, but if not I'll browse around for some alternatives. I will be sure to not increase the heat if they are plastic... I doubt it'd be a problem to use high watt bulbs, the seller offers an upgrade to 100/90 or 100/55 watt bulbs for only about $6! I skipped it, and figure if the 60/55's aren't enough I'll just head over to autozone and look, and if they don't have any good ones, I'll get them from ********, only $9.70 on there for the 100/80's.

35 watt HID? How does that work? Are they just a normal H4 socket bulb with different properties? If it needs a system conversion + ballast etc...no way. Defeats the cheapness.

It comes in a kit. The balast, H4 xenon light bulb, connections. The balast has an H4 plug that will work with the stock wire harness.

This is the kit i bought from this seller on ebay, i have the H7 kit for my W124 but here is the H4 with hi/lo just like i had on the previous euro healight setup on my W124.

Hmm....looks interesting. If I decide to upgrade from the bulbs that come with it I'll give that some consideration. Of course it does add complexity and potential failure issues to do the HID's....and cost. $9.70 each for the 100/80 bulbs....much much cheaper.

The bulbs may be cheaper up front but in the long run they can get pricey. 100W bulbs will have to be changed frequently compared to stanadard 55w. Also depends on how much night driving you do (i do as much as day driving) so for me it was be better to invest in a HID kit that outlasts 55w halogens(lasts 10x longer)

Also youll have to put in a relay to properly run those 100W bulbs or youll melt your stock wire harness....ask me how i know

all in all i think HID will work great with those headlights you bought, and so will the 100W just depends on your budget and your driving (night drivng)

Anything other than white tends to be crap. Go to your local junkyard- you ought to be able to find 60/55 H4 bulbs for nothing.

If you are just interested in more light and are OK with the existing headlight doors, just get a set of replacement e-code lights:

http://www.rallylights.com/hella/200mm.asp

The installation takes about 30 minutes, versus most of the afternoon to figure out a decent way to mount the euro lights mentioned above. They don't have the proper bracketry for the US vehicles and you need to do some "modifications" to get them to work. On the right side, it requires you to remount the receiving "nut" in another location...........drill........dremel........etc.

The light output of the SD with the replacement e-code lights is equivalent to the SDL with the Depo euro lights.

Yep, thats what I decided to do, I bought a set of e-codes from autopal on ebay. We'll see how good they are.

With my luck I'd buy euro's and promptly have a rock smash them on the freeway the following week...so I'll keep it cheap. I already lost my drivers side fog to a flying rock, so I need to replace that too...

I have the Phillps Ultra-blue sealed beams in there right now, and they produce a much whiter/better light than my old standard halogens did....still not good enough though. Thats why I am going e-code...

DHL dropped off the Auto-pal e-codes today, they are nice stuff considering they're only $11 apiece! Including the bulb! Made in India... Nice high quality though. Glass front lens (thick) and a heavy heavy thermoplastic backing, sealed water tight, with a super reflective coating inside....they look real neat on the car. And...the best part....THEY ARE BRIGHT!! Wow! They flood the road with light! I was immediately impressed. probably 5x better than my old lights. And with only the 60/55 Ultra-blue (produces very white light) bulbs in them! Best $41 I ever spent on lighting, thats for sure. They look really cool when on. More "fancy" looking than the icky sealed beams. I'll try to take some pics at some point....

Thumbs up

Why not just get some of the Hella replacements for your sealed beam?
