crankshaft seal replacement 84 300SD

Hey folks. I have a badly leaking front seal that I need to replace. I pulled out my 126 service manual cd and disk 1 won't read! I think the process is fairly straight forward, but I feel better with a manual in front of me. Can anyone point me to a copy online? Or give me the basics on replacing the front seal? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bob

crankshaft seal; additional info

Sorry. The car is a 1984 300SD. It is throwing oil from the belts and crankshaft pulley. Leads me to believe it is the front seal. If there are other obvious possibilities, please feel free to educate me!

power steering pump seals usually go long before a front main seal.

not front seal but oil return hose!

After removing the fan and disconnecting the belts , I thought I would check my diagnosis. Turns out that the oil is getting on the belts from a small hole in the return line from the oil cooler! Seems obvious now that I see it! I also see that the return hose snakes around a lot of engine parts and supports. What is the best way to pull the old one out and put the new one in?

You've opened a can of worms there. Search on it.
