OK. I really want that 4 speed. How much? Theres a turbo 603 engine I just saw at the junkyard yesterday, still has most of its stuff. $200 is what they want, but you have to pull it yourself.

That's not sad -- that car is ready to depart the automotive world. Now, that 914 being in the yard is a sad thing.

In the last year, I've seen two in Atlanta-area yards. Both were almost completely stripped, and the only thing worth getting was a rear wiper motor assembly.

There are always multiple MB diesels in the Atlanta yards I go to, the majority of them being W123s, and the ratio is the opposite of yours -- about four diesels to one gasser.

Sorry, but an MB being in a junkyard isn't automatically a sad thing. Not all can or should be saved, but I will agree that many are crushed before their useful parts can be retrieved.

Agreed. That 240D probably belongs in there. "Sad" was the first car I posted, and I guess this turned into the junkyard find thread. Fine by me

You guys are lucky to have any older cars in the junkyard. Around here, if it's older than 5 years, it gets crushed.

Thought I'd revive this thread with a couple of recent finds:

This 300D was suspiciously close to a junkard:

1979 240D 4-speed with a 5-cylinder N/A.. it's donating it's transmission to my car:

A few months ago there was a 1976 450SE W116 in absolutely mint condition like it was only 5 years old. I pulled the dashboard because it looked NOS. I should have pulled the perfect German windshield but didn't have time. The next day there were two cars stacked on top of it.

Then there was a Euro 1977 280S W116 with Euro lights, manual heater controls, and a perfect blue velour interior. I only had time to pull the headlights before they pulled it out and crushed it.

The other day they had a Jaguar that had a flawless paint job, and perfect interior with wood trim. It even had a high end XM Satellite Radio CD player and I know it was working because it came on when I pressed the button. Inside the car were tools and boxes of tune-up parts, like Bosch Iridium spark plugs. It's like they pulled someone's $30,000 car right out of their garage and stacked it in the junk yard.

I see a surprising amount of w116s in junkyards. Off the top of my head I can think of around five 300SDs and 450SELs, plus a 1976 280S.

My local junkyards has nothing in their yards, as soon they get it,its crushed very soon after. Ive seen a 420sel in and 190E that was in accident.

the 420sel looked in decent shape.

Seeing that pic of the poor red 240 on the flat bed just about made me sick. Poor car, hopefully headed to be repaired or was just being moved/transported and not junked.

I absolutely hate seeing repairable cars going to scrap....its just a symbol of waste. At least one small effect of the economic situation is people repairing more cars/holding onto them, you should see the local repair places! They have a LOT of cars waiting to be repaired....more than I've ever seen.

There's a 126 gasser here in Holland LKQ, and an X1/9 (ladder bumpers, early car).
