I have never been checked on the Mercedes, I have had it for 11 yrs.

I also have never been checked in the 26 yrs I have owned my Datsun
Diesel PU.

I have heard that they do check, but have never come across anyone
that has.

In the farming areas of calif. it might be more of a problem.
The amount of tax money the govt. would not recieve from off road Diesel being use on road, would be a drop in the bucket compared to what the Govt. wastes.

It`s always good to have all your reciepts as to when, where, time, and mileage. I don`t trust the Govt. at any level.

It's been a big panic and then question for the 10+ years I've been owning/operating large diesel motorhomes and moderating/contributing on websites and forums.

Nobody in any of these large motorhomes has ever said that they have been checked.

I don't want to be the first, but I feel that it is highly unlikely unless you're a commercial truck, that you'll ever be stick tested.

been driving diesel suburbans, ford F-350 as well as my mercedes diesels for 10 years and have never been checked. this includes long island as well as upstate new york.
A friend in suffolk PD motor carrier unit (truck inspections) said they do not check fuel at checkpoints BUT NYS DOT checkpoints do. They only seem to check medium duty commercial trucks and larger though. Never seen a car in there.

If the exhaust was reddish, I'd be moving away from the vehicle.

i have not been dipped and i knew a kid one time that only ran dyed fuel and he was not dipped either.

the more this topic comes up the more i think it is more for OTR rigs... their fuel tanks don't have any bends in them, take the cap of and there is the fuel, so it would be easy to dip them. ours and other non 18 wheeers have curvy necks into our tanks.

On the farms, yes. On the road, NO. As I understand it, if you are going from one field to another across a road, you can get away with it. However, if they check you and your field is 10 miles away, you are probably screwed.

I was in Hartford WI. Was about to fill up. Just about to touch the trigger when I noticed it was Ag fuel only. Quickly stopped. Backed up the car to the previous pump and filled. Forgot about it till I was done. A cop came up to me and was about to check me since he saw me put the nozzle in my car. I showed him that there was NO fuel purchased from the pump before he let me go.
