Maryland, NoVa guys do you know this car?

Hey this is for my buddies in Maryland and NoVa...

Does anybody know this car?
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/car/537789356.html

I was looking for a W126, but a wagon is hard to overlook.
If anybody know the history of this car, please PM me.

Thanks,

Joe

The tailgates are not well drained and tend to rust on an othewise clean car.

My guess on 3 of the last 4 I've seen: water starts to get in around the seal on the washer nozzle above the window and starts rusting there, it drains down around the left side of the glass and rusts there as well at the bottom of the window. Then, dripping down to the bottom it rusts out the left bottom side of the tailgate and spreads across.

That is what I have heard. I hope it will have no problem passing inspection...

How hard is it to replace the tailgate (assuming I can find a cali replacement) Is it just a couple of bolts on the tailgate hinges?

not bad, two bolts on each side, 8 numbered wires to unscrew under the back of the headliner inside.

I actually got mine lined up and in by myself last time I did one. Got it on the first try too.

Cool, Thanks John!

Would you be willing to take a look at the 300SD? I am still hoping that it can be saved. I do have a spare oil pump and chain if that is all that broke.

My biggest rust concern on the W123 is when water leaks in at the windsheild gasket or battery tray, then quietly runs under the floor-mats and rots the floors under and behind the front seats, often extending up the sills to the seatbelt anchors. I've seen a couple of W123s where the lower outer seatbelt anchors were only attached to carpet!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Yeah, somebody bought it while I was on the road from NY to Md

I am now looking at two others, a 1982 300SD and a 1986 SDL.

My prefrence is the SDL as I have had an SD but the SD looks like it is in good shape. it's in Richmond though and far from me...

Thanks! I will hold on to Bruno. If he can't be fixed he can either become a donor car if I buy another W126 or I can sell him for parts.

Everything is in good shape with the exception of the engine (of course) and the rust on the right 1/4 panel. even the sunroof works smoothly
