The funny thing is there is a nice medium red/saddle leather one with similar miles on it about an hour from my house which is also a one owner car but the widow of the owner wanted 3X as much as I paid for this one. I had offered her half her asking price before I bought this one (still 50% more than I was paying for this one) but she insisted she could get what she wanted for it...as far as I know she still has it. I love these old cars but can't afford to pay $$$$ for them.

Marty that is just a nice example of a clean W116, and as you know pretty rare these days to find one in that condition. I especially like the pin striping. Looks very nice with the rest of the car.

Beautiful! I love the contrast between the silver paint, chrome trim and bright red pinstripe!

I think 1979 was the last year for those in the 300SD.

The pictures look great. I have been looking forward to seeing them. That truly is a gorgeous car.

Thanks Richard!

For those of you who didn't see my prior thread on this car it was Richard who went out and pre-checked it out for me and also lined me up with a local garage so we could put it on the lift before I drove it home. It was very nice of him to step in and be my eyes to make sure the car was worth booking a plane ticket for and nice meeting a board member in person! A Great guy!

The only thing better than getting a nice car is getting one with a story and memories. Corny, but it makes a difference, I promise!

I just love love love the body style and all the chrome of the W116's.

My favorite body style is the W108 / W109, and the W116 is a close second.

It's just a shame that there isn't more of a following or an appreciation of the 116's.

That is a beautiful car. I don't mind the chrome on that model at all. Please tell me you won't drive it in the New England salt.

Nope, it only comes out when the roads are dry. I will try and drive it every couple of weeks througout the winter but only when the roads and weather permit.

'tis a beauty. All she needs now is some euro lights and bumpers, IMO.
