w126 oil filter housing and w123 housing

As some of you know Im doing an engine swap between a 84 300d and an 81 300sd. Ive run into a problem. I dont beleive you can just "swap" the oil filter housings as they have differences. And the w126 housing I have has a tooth broken off on a pump or whatever the hell that is, and it bugs the crap out of me. I thoought i could just swap that part but it looks pressed into it. Pictures are included. I came up with this brilliant idea though. Just use my trusty 300d housing and plumb the electrical pressure sender into the oil pressure line comming off the back. That way I dont have to worry about my engine blowing up from that missing tooth or the other differences (see that pic where the tooth is missing, and see the little surrounding area? Thats different between the too, one is like a canal and one is blocked). Basicaly what im thinking is that ill just plumb the electric sender into where the mechanical one comes off and use it. But there is slight differences in the dimenshions of the two housings and I dont know it if it will fit in the sd's engine bay.

That's the return flow blocking valve.

The valve seat is threaded. You should be able to unscrew it if you can procure or fabricate a tool to engage the two holes. It should be peened in the two recesses, so you might have to deal with that, also.

You might want to research that in a little more detail.

SO what does this mean? Am i not going to be able to use this becuase of that broken tooth? Keep in mind I dont want anything here that can damage the engine, i love this 617. It was the engine in my first car and it has real centimental value with me (thats why im so concerned)

id like to just use my old housing and plumb the electrical sender onto the mechnical senders line, I just dont know if the housing will cooperate with the sd engine bay

If I were you, I would just unscrew the valve seats and exchange the broken part for the good one.

Yeah ill try that, maybe tonight. But see how the passage way for the oil is different on one housing compared to the other (next to the valve were talking about), as in, one has a passageway and the other doesnt. That concerns me

New question. Can i still use my old housing in a w126 if I devise my own way to hookup the electrical sender to it?

I have taken my oil filter housing apart just to see what was inside of it.
use a small punch and a hammer and tap the one of the holes, it just
unscrews. lift it out, and behind it is a spring and the oil thermostat that
controls oil flow the the oil cooler. there is a special tool part# 617 589 00 07 00.

The deeper hole is a by pass valve. I removed it with a socket that looks
like a slot screw driver, on an extention to fit down in the hole. there is a
spring and I forget what else.

the broken piece could be swaped from the other filter.

Ihaven`t had a 126 & 123 filter housing side by side, but seems you could
change the plate from ea filter for the oil sender.

Tango, forced is right. I just took it out, it is an oil thermostat. Btw guys, I swapped the plastic piece, I guess ill just put it on the engine even though the passageways are slightly different, oh well. I looked at it and the only thing it would cause is a very very slight difference in the flow of oil to the oil cooler, so whatever

No, forced was not right. The thermostat is located underneath the return flow locking valve. No part of the thermostat is visible unless the return flow locking valve and seat is first removed from the filter housing.

The picture that you presented with the broken black plastic part is the return flow locking valve, not the thermostat.

I invite your attention to the 617.95 Engine Manual, page 18.8-005/4. Special attention should be directed to parts 11 and 16.
