123 Arm rest breakdown? Cup holder idea

Ok so I know, its not very European and definitely not "Mercedes" but i need cup holders, did a search and didnt find much. I have a 1984 300D, theres a company that makes cup holders for 124 and a few other models that goes in the console, but not any for the 123.

I was thinking of using a junkyard armrest (no sense in destroying mine) and using the recessed boat style to install one in the armrest. Has anyone recovered their armrest and has pictures of the breakdown. Or anytype of diagram. The holder is about 3 1/2 inches tall so is there room?

I did a search on Google and came across Ultimatecupholder.com and they had a universal folding one that looks pretty cool and the other holders would hold a 1 ltr drink. Anyone use them?

I believe each of these cars are the final production year for that model.

Yeah like it

Yeah i read your post i like your idea and i might do it, but i drink at least 2 usually 4 route 44 ice teas from Sonic everyday, and that style of cup holder just wont work, I'm hoping that in the mercedes manual there is a parts break down so i can get an idea of what im working with.

I've had a similar idea floating around my head for awhile now but have yet to get to it. I was thinking of maybe something sliding out from the tip of the arm rest with a cup holder in it. I have some concerns of the weight of a large drink (especially since should it fail it would fail all over the window switches). I guess the next time I go to the junk yard I should pull an arm rest and take it home to dissect.

a member here built some nice wood ones about 18 months back and sold the lot to others on the forum..including me . Sorry, don't have a picture as I'm 4000 miles away from my TD, but basically it's 'nearly' matching wood with two holders and fits snuggly in the console under the arm rest. Maybe someone else who has one can post a picture (or the manufacturer himself).
