Except our engines waste some of that, because they don't get 25% better mileage than an equivalent size gasser engine....

I can still remember when I first got my car I could do a full fill-up for like $23-26....now its about $60-70! And thats only in 4 years! Thats a 250% increase in fuel costs, but my income has only gone up about 35% since then. (poor college student)

$3.86 gal this week for D2 at the station I use in Walnut Creek (Bay Area), CA.

Glad that work pays for it (part of employment contract) and that I don't.

$80 fillup

The SD took 22+ gallons at $3.55 for a fillup cost of $80. Ouch. I don't even want to think about my conversion van with the 35 gal tank.

Not even close... http://www.petrolprices.com/ shows an average of 104.9 pence per liter (i.e., 1.049 pounds per liter). Still painful though... 3.785 liters to 1 USG and 1.966 pounds to 1 USD => $7.81 / gallon.

12.86 pounds per liter would be about $25 a liter or about $75 a gallon.

1.049 pounds per liter is still insane....thats over $2.25 a liter....so like $7+ a gallon.

I paid $3/gal even for commercial B99 biodiesel here in Houston this weekend. I still see signs for dinodiesel at about $3.20, higher if you're closer to downtown.

Cheers, John

Decimal displaced as thats about 100.00 per us gallon. Move the decimal and you are around 10.00 per gallon. Bad enough.
Do not let current energy prices distract you from considering what may change over the long haul and how it may afect your family. Change is relentless.
I notice here in Canada that food, insurance and many other things have lept upward reciently. If you are not keeping up think about it.
My choice for now being retired was to increase my income. Not always possible with the general state of industry, buisiness and the economy. If that where not possible I might have had to considered lowering my standard of living.
Downsizing is the buzzword I believe. Must be close to getting harder for many young families. There is no real gain or upside from seeing our assets appreciate either. Just makes more people struggle in my opinion.

Unless there is some giant conspiracy. When the northern heating season has passed it should drop back in comparison to regular gas.
God help us if they have decided to charge us more because in theory or folk lore we get better economy on diesel fuel.
Plus I have to wonder if it may be a strategic move to give the american producers time to enter the diesel car market bigtime.
The differential in fuel costs if large enough might discourage mass purchase of forein diesel cars for awhile. We may be paying to enhance survivability of our industies a little. If the japanese released masses of diesel cars in say a year I think it might finish killing the so called big three. They may be doomed anyways. Remember the japanese will give no absolute accurate date the flood begins. It would kill their gas car sales if I read the market right. People would take a wait and see stance prior to a decision. Talk about paranoia.
