I think the injection pump completely shuts of the fuel when coasting which would theoretically push the economy to infinity for a period of time.

Hi
I bought a ScanGuage off ebay and have just realised that my 1998 E 300 Turbodiesel does not have an OBD II port. Just the 38 pin Mercedes port. Does anyone know if you can get an adapter and more importantly will it work? It was only in USA that they became standard in 1996 not Europe. In case anyone makes the same mistake. McCool300TD

Hi
Does anyone know what wires are common to the 38 pin plug and the OBD2 plug so i can retrofit an OBD2 plug to a 1998 E300TD to get this ScanGuage working, is there a gateway module between the 38 pin and the OBD2 plug???. Even if someone with a 1998 could PM their VIN i could try and access the part no. through the EPC. Help would be appreciated. McCool300TD

I never would have thought that they'd omit OBDII from the cars for the european market but I guess you'd know better...chalk that up to the "learn something new every day". I guess I just assumed OBDII became the universal standard for all cars. Hmmm. What exactly do you have in the place where the OBD plug is on our cars?

I think OBDII is just a set of pins on the ECU. Could they possibly have a totally different ECU/harness for Europe? A wiring diagram would be helpfull for a side-by-side comparison...

Hi
I does not work mpg can be fiddled about with prob to make it accurate. i doesnt give boost pressure and the RPM is too low approx 157 ticking over. Speed is totally wrong too. Seems like a great toOl if it would work properly. I doubt i need to get connected to a few more pins or whatever. McCool300TD

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer...they do have some tech support online and by mail or phone that might help you.

The OBD2 port uses the 'K-line' output from the 38-pin connector as the data input (pin 7 on the OBD2 connector). I am fairly certain that this pin mapping will work for you:
Code:
OBD2 MB 38-pin ------- ---------- 5 1 (ground) 7 15 (data) 16 3 (battery)

Hi
The 38 pin to OBD2 adapter i have at the min uses pins 1,3&4. Not sure which pins they go to on the OBD2 its a moulded plug and i dont want to cut it open. Should i swap the wire currently on 4 to 15? Is that likely to damage the ScanGuage if it is wrong? Thanks for your help. McCool300TD

Sorry for the bad info but you're pin-4 specification matches the diagram on AllData - I got the pin-15 info from a 38-pin diagnostic port to OBD2 cable specification.

I just went on a trip to Pittsburgh this weekend, and was checking the miles on the guage. It showed I averaged around 48MPG, and also showed I had about 500+ miles til empty, however my fuel gauge said otherwise. At about 600 miles on the actual odometer, she was about dry. Unfortunately I have yet to be able to get an accurate MPG reading on one of these scan gauges. I love mine, it has many many uses, I just wish MPG was one of them.
