2 pin on wire and 3 pin on Tachometer?????
I recieved the experimental tach pcb from a forum member today and it did not work. I decided to remove the guage cluster and see what was what. the tach is unplugged. I started fishing around behind it and All I could come up with is a 2 wire plug on the instrument harness. Did this connection change over the years or is there a harness in between the 2 to the 3 on the cluster? should there be a 3 wire connector somewhere and I am just not finding it? Looking at the underside of the dash I think this dash has been changed. I think some PO removed the entire interior from this car and replaced it with lesser condition parts. I say this because all of the seat brackets and dash brackets have been removed and replaced and you can see the differences, along with broken tabs on all of the vent tubes. I think maybe the dash might be from a different year than the car. did this connection change from year to year? It looks like the tach is marked "w" "gnd" and "+". can i put the wires from the two wire on these terminals without the plug housing? If so anyone know the colors of wires. Looks like the wires on the plug are red/blk and grn/blk.
Thanx

Well, before you buy another tach, connect 12v to the +, ground to the GND, and the signal wire from the amp to the other pin and see if it works. I think the 2 pin tachs just eliminated the GND plug, and the gauge was grounded from the mounting plate.

do you know for sure this works, I would rather not cut into the harness and then find out this does not work. I tried attaching the red to + and the grn to "w" but it didnt work.

Don't cut into the harness...you can connect power and ground independently of the harness. Make up a jumper to plug into the harness and into the tach.
It should work, but nothing definite can be said about these old cars
