It is definitely a stone. I too would think it would have made a racket. I wonder if it happened while my son was driving it and he neglected (was afraid) to tell me. I can't figure out how it got in there. The stone is roughed up pretty good from the impeller. The impeller now won't turn. That stone has got to be 3/4 inch in size. I think someone put it there...

Anyone have any ideas how a stone 3/4" accross could get to my turbo in a closed system? Sure looks like a stone I don't think it is anything from the air intake. Where else could it come from?

When was the last time the air filter system was worked on? OUCH...

When I replaced the air filter about 6 months ago. The stone finally got stuck between the tip of the impeller and the side of the housing. I guess it must have gotten in one time when I had the airbox off for some reason. Oh well, time to put the new turbo on and see what happens next...

This is what happend next. I GOT BOOST. It is intermittant but about half the time now the turbo actually supplies some boost! Looks like it is impossible to kill one of these turbos. If I could get dependable boost from 10-50 I'd be very happy. Apparently the impeller can still spin, but just gets hung up, or needs a little extra to get spinning. Still plan on replacing the turbo, but the car is more driveable now. Should I just keep driving and see if it improves?

If there is any blade damage it needs to be replaced.

Debris from the turbo will enter the engine (if the turbo is rubbing/wearing/disintigrating).

Forced and Babmog, both good points. Yes there is fin damage on the impeller. I'll only drive it to the shop to get the turbo swapped. I hadn't thought of it throwing off pieces and them getting in to the motor. Thanks
