Be sure to CHECK THE SEALS on the bottles. I quit buying oil from WalMart because more than once, I got home and found the seals to be broken or the foil tops popped in. The oil is not returnable if the seals are broken and I was not going to put a Bottle of possibly contaminated oil in my engine.

I just buy my oil at the local oil company or truck stops now.

Advance and Autozone both have pretty good prices on there trans. oil.

I'm not sure who makes Wal-Mart oil now- it probably is contracted out to the low bidder who meets Dex III specs.

I have found the way to figure out who makes the private label oil is to turn over the box and check the seal (that tells the burst spec) of the box. The city that box was made in will be listed. Compare it with the box origin of the name brand oil and, if it matches, that will tell you who supplied the private label oil. Frequently the bottles will be similar as well.

I use it, works fine. I am not afraid of rebuilding the trans again either though.

I wouldn't. Good fluid is cheap enough, especially if you consider the alternative.

I like the Valvoline Dexron VI synthetic that NAPA sells....they shift great with that fluid....and its not very expensive either for a synthetic. WAY less than the iffy weird smelling Mobil stuff.

LOL, Lots of good data driven opinions here. How can you possibly quantify the wear characteristics of an oil from smell and "its held up well" type of comments.

Unless you have access to some real data about the characteristics of each oil, all you can go by is the ASTM standards printed on the bottle. Thats why all these oil type threads are so worthless.

They changed the formulation to a "Multi-vehicle formula" and it does smell very unpleasant (especially compared side to side with the previous formulation).....not to mention its about $8+ a quart. I'll go with the $5 a quart stuff since it smells better and I change it once a year anyways.

I cannot agree with you more. If you believe what the ad says then pigs can fly. I always use the cheapest motor oil/transmission oil and never have any issues. May be I am a cheapskate. It goes back to the same question, generic or name brand ( drugs, I mean ).
