Everyone Loves Pics!

The intake is a result of being stuck in my home town with the auto parts store out of the stock filter. I liked the sound of the engine with out the air box, and never went back.

My car is currently parked at my friend house for the next few months, my land lord threatened eviction unless I got rid of some cars. and living with Garrett means I will always have the problem of to may cars. and i know he wouldn't park all of his cars. so my SD got exiled.

so the pics are up to date. around September i should have the car back, to finish some of the projects i started. i know the intercooler install isn't the cleanest. and my set up isn't the best thing since God invented the Mercedes nameplate. so I've been reluctant to post pics because of all the flames I'm sure to receive. but since you brought it up. here you go!

Ah yes, air filter sucking hot air from behind an intercooler that gets no airflow over it...

Throw a little electric fan on the IC and a box around the air filter with some fender "gills" ALA W124 300D.

There is an electric fan in his garage, waiting to be attached to the intercooler....

There are actually more plans for the car.... The battery is going to be moved into the trunk, and in its place, the air filter and intercooler are going to be mounted. There are some thoughts of modifications in order to help draw cool air into the whole thing once the battery has been moved. It should also create a nice little pocket to keep intake temps down.

Also - It gets nice cold air when the headlight it out....

This summer, there are plans for a meet at the racetrack to play with the mods....

the plan is to relocate the battery, and house the air intake between the fire walls where the battery is at. and i have an electric fan for the back of the IC, but i can't fit it while the air cleaner is still there.

You could still do the "gills"

Hot air intake....

Did the IC actually drop the temp any? I have to wonder with the intake being behind the IC.....

Thanks for the pics SirNik.

This looks like one hell of a set up, what do you guys think about the postiton of the air filter here?

Intercooled 300DT Pictures

Anyway, about that vaccum question I had earlier, am I hurting anything by not using the vent hose? I am thinking that maybe my vaccum pump is not pulling enough and that is why hard shifting comes back when I use the vent line...Any thoughts?

Would have been better if he actually posted some kind of data to backup his claims.

Any ideas on the vaccum question, or are we gonna keep talking about air intake?

If I knew intercoolers and air boxes were such a hot button, I never would have brought it up.

Anyway, I am super happy about the smooth shifting I am getting out of my wagon, but woried that the mods I made to get there may be screwing something up.

I learned about the vaccum system from an old German guy who has owned an indi benz garage for 30 years in Ypsilanti, MI. He constantly stressed the imporance of good vaccum, especially good tight 3-2 valves for turbo and transmission performance. However, nothing's sacred and as far as I'm concered anything to simplify the vaccum system is a good thing.

Bad part is, my vaccum gauge took a crap when I sucked gasoline into it and I have not replaced the diaphram in it yet.

He should have told you to get rid of the 3/2 valves entirely.
