If your W123 is shaking down the highway. . .
then you might have a loose flex disc bolt. I thought one of my back wheels was out of balance, so I lived with it for a while. Since I've disconnected the drive shaft from the tranny twice in the past few years, I thought I'd check those bolts. My ride is much smoother now. Check out the pic to see what can happen to your bolt.

I need to check mine. My car has a weird shake at 55 mph and thats the only speed it does it. but I do not think its the F/D's since I can feel it in the left front. I just rebuilt the darn suspension too.

Yeah, the reason I thought that it was a rear wheel was because I couldn't feel it in the front. BTW, how much time and money did it take you to rebuild the front end? I don't have any of the special tools required, but would like to get rid of all the slack in my steering wheel.

no special tools other than a press to remove the lower ball joint from the spindle and the special press to put in the new lower ball joint, or bring the ball joint and spindle to the dealership to do it.
It was an afternoon deal. We did the tie rods, upper control arms, lower ball joints and the bearings.. I think it was like $300 ish, I don't have the receipts on me. Then we did a DIY alignment so it would make it to the dealership to get a proper job ($110 last year) and I was good to go |
