Arrow 300SDL CCU noise???

Lately when my CCU engages, a loud growling, moaning noise has been coming from my passenger side panel. It will slowly die down if I push "0", which makes me think its something with the CCU. Any ideas?

Thanks for ALL help and ideas!

Blower motor has bad bearings? Maybe aspirator motor?

Sounds like your blower motor is failing.

Is this a common problem? How do I prevent damage or repair?

Thank You!

Yep, you can remove the motor and spray some oil on the shaft to try and buy yourself some time. I did and gained like 6 months. Or just replace it, they are not to expensive I think I got a new one for like $110.

Exclamation

Is it possible something is brushing up against or lodged in the motor underneath the dash? The mechanic said it's possible, since he didn't really know what he was doing I guess. So is it worth taking the dash off to see or is it more than likely a failing motor?

What's the worst that can happen from the blower motor failing while driving???

Thanks again for all replys!

It is easy to check the aspirator motor. Just remove the glove box. It is on the passenger side in plain view. But, I doubt that it's the problem, however, it is easy to rule out the aspirator motor.
Just remove the 7(?) pop in clips along with their holder and slide the box out. Should take maybe a minute.
Watch your fingers around the aspirator motor. The fan blades are exposed. (Don't ask me how I know this.....)

Other than being uncomfortable, the worst is that the high current from the blower motor can cause the demise of the CCU.

I forget the exact procedure since its been awhile but they are simple to get at. You need to remove the glove box and kick panal under it.

Sand and dirt gets into the motor and after 20 years ruins it, thats why the newer cars have cabin air filters. Like I said before you can try to clean and lube it up, that will buy you a little time.

Its just for your climate control, if it fails you won't get air into the cabin. Open your windows I guess if you don't want to fix it.

Arrow Unplugged power source......

I decided after random loud growling and screaming, that I should unplug the blower motor inside the black box under the kick panel. All I did was remove the power wire and electrical taped it. The CCU still engages and I can hear the hissing before you usually get air in the cabin. While driving afterward I thought I smelled something burning, then it went away, and did it again later that day someone else pointed out. I don't know if somethings burning out or drawing too much current. Is there anything else I should unplug (compressor, hoses,...)if I messed with the Blower Motor regulator?

Thanks!

If your not going to fix it just yank the CC system fuse.

First before trying to fix all this stuff you need to get a FSM. The cheapest way to do that is on CD.

I don't remember which fuse it is unfortunitly.

There are two fuses for the climate control. The first one you should not pullas it does things like giove you your backup lights, transmission kickdown, and shuts off the heater valve. The second is for the blower motor and is a 25amp fuse.

To get to the motor (I just did mine) dothe following:

1) Remove the kick panel Three screws and a plastic plug unplug the aspirator motor as it is attached to the kick panel.

2) The black box under the dash is the air plenum. It is held on with three fairly long phillips head screws Remove it

3) plug the bloewer motor back in, turn the key to "on" and it a button on the CCU the fan should spin freely. If not, turn off with the key.

4) The fan is held in with three phillips head screws. It is hard to get under the dash to see, but they come out rather easily. Support the fan by putting one of the long air plenum screws back throuogh the hole in the fan assembly and into the cage nut on the plenum. You will see what I mean.

5) Once you have the fan out, look for obvious burn marks inside the motor.

6) I soaked my motor in BioDiesel overnight and it removed a ton of carbon, soot, and other junk. I also soaked the aspirator motor.

7) Let the motor dry throroughly.

8) I used a Q-tip and transmission fluid to lubricate the bearings.

9) Reattach the fan into the air plenum and with the cover still off, plug it in and try to get it to run. It should work.

10 If it works, reassemble the air plenum, attach the aspirator fan to the kick panel and put everything back. You will need to be careful with the rubber hose that goes to the aspirator fan as it can slip off when you put the kick panel back.

Good Luck!
