Help A/C Error code for 98 E300D

Hello all,

And Thank You in Advance for all the good information in the following thread.

'99 e300d - air conditioning not working

I have a 98 E300D with A/C not working. In the spring I recharged the system. 6 Weeks later it stopped working. I went to add a can of freon and after 1/4 can realized that the system is full and approaching the red on the guage. I also realized that the compressor is not kicking on.

After reading the above thread, I got the diagnostice codes and need somehelp understanding them.

eb 1 231
eb 1 234
459
422

459 and 422 are new and not explained in the above thread.

Also the other numbers are (climate set to 72 degrees and running) temp about 80 degrees F after driving home and letting the car cool some.

1 33
2 29
3 31
4 29
5 60
6 62
7 15

I did not write doen the eigth one.

Does anyone have a reference for the above codes?

Thanks in advance..

Trouble codes B1422 and B1459 are: Series interface K1/K2 (resp.) connection to instrument panel.

Don't rely on the low-side pressure telling you anything unless the compressor is running.

I'm not sure how you were trying to add refrigerant with the compressor off. Did you heat the can?

In any case, you shouldn't be trying to use a $10 recharge hose on your $1200 (plus labor!) AC system. Frankly, the auto-parts houses would be doing you a HUGE favor by not selling these kits.

The obvious question is do I need to communicate over this interface to run the A/C. Perhaps cab temperature is derived here?

If your auxiliary fan is controlled by the N22 pushbutton module, you do need that communication so that the fan will engage if the engine temperature goes up, and the compressor will disengage before the engine overheats. If the auxiliary fan is controlled by the N10-1 convenience module, I don't know if you need it for the fan, but still to shut down the system under excessive engine temperature.

I would first try resetting those codes to see if they return. If they do, I'm afraid that I cannot give you a hint as to what is wrong - likely either the N22 pushbutton unit or your instrument panel.

Read all of the codes, then hold both AUTO buttons for >2 seconds before resetting the temperatures to 72 and turning the key to OFF.

I think that I have a faulty evap temp sensor. The reading for #5 is always at or around 60 regardless if car is hot/cold etc.Can anyone confirm if this is likely before I get another?

My earlier diagnistic codes appear to be just left over from some other time. After resetting the climate control,I have cold air for a few seconds after start, but then no cold air.

If those readings are in Celsius, it would appear to be bad.

Thanks Matt.

I believe that they are in celsius only concluding this from looking at the other temp numbers. Do not know how to confirm this.

It's either that, or you don't have any need for AC just now (judging by readings 1,2,3 and 4).

#1 & 2 are int and ext temps; looks like you're reading in C.

It's really kind of a problem that they aren't all C or all F for these readings, but that's life. Once you know how your own car reads though, you aren't confused.

Seriously, I thought it was cold where he was. But I should not have; if it were really 33F, he wouldn't be asking about AC troubles.
