remember Old Navy's oil separator tube fix?

All,

Some years ago Old Navy removed the oil drain tube from his air cleaner housing to the block, and replaced it with 9/16" vinyl tubing.

I'm looking at a similar fix on my 300D. Has anyone tried this, what type of hose did you use, was there ever a heat issue, and how long did the fix last?

Let me now if you've done this repair, I'm curious about the long term implications.

I just started a new job that requires a 650 mile/week commute and I'll need to get the leaks under control. I've used the stock orings and they don't work that well.

Thanks to All,
Nate

sorry, I've lubed my undercarriage enough already and I don't want to leave little blobs wherever I go.

I just did the oil filter housing gasket a month ago, so that side of the engine's dry.

There is also the Red RTV repair method as well. I had a baaaad leak at the bottom where the line goes into the top of the upper oil pan. Cleaned the area very well and then smeared a good thick coating of the Red RTV all over the joint area. Its been there now for a year and a half and not showing any signs of failing. Not much later had a similar problem with the turbo oil return line and did the same fix on it. A whole lot easier than trying to get old lines out and putting in new ones!!!!

Plus this is in Okla and we have had some pretty hot temps here the last couple of summers.

Well, as an Okie stranded down here in Baja Oklahoma (TEXAS), I still remember hot summers in Oklahoma from my youth. Lemme tell ya, it can shore get hot in the Southwest USA. Remember one summer that it got so hot my uncle's cows froze to death in the pasture. They sure did too!!! Ya see, there was the neighbor farmer/rancher that had grown some corn in the land just south of my uncle's cow pasture. It got so hot that summer that the corn popped and the prevailing south wind (alla the trees point north in Okie land) blew the popcorn over to the cow pasture. Poor cows thought it was a sudden blizzard and they simply froze to death on the spot. The men from the dog food processing plant had to pry the frozen cows loose from the ground to load fer th trip to the plant. And that brought up 'nother wonderment. The leather was so smooth that the local Benz dealer called th factory in Germany. They bought alla the leather for some special interiors on some Mercedes cars. In payment fer th leather, th Benz factory gave my uncle a special farm tractor with two six seventeen turbocharged diesel engines on it. It has a Benz grille and three pointy star. And as a real plus, they made an air conditioned cab for the tractor, so's my uncle can inspect his cattle in comfort daily inna hot summer. Seems Benz wants to be called at the first sign of "cows freezin" in the future....fer th special leather.

How's th local arachnoid speed bump populace commin along this summer in Okie land???? Ya know, th trantula spiders that ever one tries to run over as they cross th road.

Regards

Run-Em
