300TD 72,000 miles

Hello All,

I have been away from the forum for awhile. I recently found a 1984 300td wagon in what I think is pristine condition. It is the original owner service at the dealer. It only has 71,000 miles. It is never been in snow and id garage kept. He wants 4500 dollars for it and that is what is keeping me from buying it. Do you guys think that is to much? It even has that little third seat. How many miles to the gallon could I expect?

Thanks,
Dieselman

that is more than fair for this car.
the turbo TD's are selling upwards of 7K in great shape. with low miles, look for it to top 9K on ebay.
tell us where it's located, and there will be a stampede to pick it up.
4.5K is out of my price range, but a one owner documented low miles wagon is WELL worth picking up.
expect to get from 22MPG to 30 depending on driving habits. more likely 25ish.

Well this is a pristine car. Even the seats have not turned pink. Honestly it looks new He even had the strips that go on the doors replaced because they crinkled up like they always do. I think I might buy it because my rav4 is pushing 250k. My old SD has 310k. So you say go for it.

NO, we say tell us where it is so WE can go for it.

seriously, it sounds like an incredible find!
I like my one owner 83SD with 173K and all records for $350 better, but still...

Buy it and sell it on ebay, if you can stomach letting someone else buy it for WVO aspirations. You'll make a mint.

Well now I am scared it will be gone before I can get back to it. I thought that was a high price for one of these old diesels. I guess I was incorrect.

I just did a search for 300TD on completed auctions, and could find nothing with less than 135Kmiles, and the pre85's were all selling for under 4K.
the thing you have to factor in is it's 72K. that is extremely low miles for this wagon. and the third row seat really is a coveted item.
the coup de gras would be if it had cargo cross bars... then I think I would take out a loan and buy the thing out from under you.
there are two with reserves over 8K the seller is holding onto.
this fall is the best time to sell a diesel, get it, hold onto it, and if you don't like it, list it here, and most of us would take it off your hands.
list it on ebay, and you can make double that.

Are you messing with us? Seriously. Right or wrong, 300TD's with this history go for over 10000 on ebay.

If you mean a roof rack by cross bars it has those also. I had a wagon once and I killed it. I only drove it a short time. I did love it. I think I might just buy it tomorrow. I will not reveal the secret of its location until I have made up my mind.

No I am not messing with you. I just did not think it would be worth that. I remember when I could buy these things all day long for 1500 dollars. I If I get it I will post some pics of it. I got my 80 SD 8 years ago for 2000 dollars with 122k.

no, they all have a roof rack, I mean the two or three sliding bars that connect to the roof rack. very rare to find a wagon with these installed. if it's the original owner, be sure and ask if the wagon came with them, they may have been removed to save fuel, and put in storage and forgotten... GET THEM if they are to be had!
and pics are required either way. so take a camera with you when you go and bargain with the seller.

It has them. The kind of screwed onto the roof rack. I was impressed by everything on this car. Even the bumper ends are perfect and not cracked. No rust in the jack stands which is rare for a 123. I wish it was silver but it is burgandy. The man that has it is a older man. He has had the AC switched over to 134 and he told me about how often he replaced the fuel return hoses because they leak. I am beginning to regret not buying it on the spot.

If you don't want it

I'll take it right now for cash, and I am closing in on being finished fixing
mine up. It had 105,000 on it, I got it for 3800.00 but I just hit 5000.00
fixing the rust and doing all the neglected maint. on it, stereo and wheels
and tires. If you don't want it I do. I'll get it and sell the lesser for a profit
where I am.
