Polished Aluminum Console w/ cup holders
Yes!
The most annoying problem with these cars is finally solved. No more spilled coffee in the console area. I'll be selling these soon... This is 6060 polished aluminum that is clear coated. I could paint it black or make flamed maple starburst like an o.e.m. les paul. Last edited by dieselkid; 07-22-2008 at 08:24 PM. Reason: new pic links |

Wood inserts that solve the cup problem have been sold for years and are easily removable to retain the functionality of the tray.

Looks....."industrial"? Not slamming the work, it appears excellent as your stuff always does. Just doesn't seem to fit being aluminum with all that wood.

looks neat. I appreciate the product as I have done some metal working too but I really think it would be nice to have it laminated with a zebrano finish with some finish cure epoxy on it. Make it look stock but have these same dimensions with the steel (or Al) base so it never warps or cracks.

Forced
It's funny forced,
I thought you where going to say something like," that's crap you can go to the hardware store and make that for 20 cents." I thought I'd give you the benefit of the doubt though. Peace... |

You make that out of wood then you are on to something. Keep it aluminum and you have rice. Only speaking of your material, not your craftsmanship......

This is exactly what I bought years ago:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercedes-123-Wooden-Cup-Holder-WOW_W0QQitemZ230270895431 It somewhat matches the rest of the wood and it needs zero modifications to install. If DK would use a fake wood overlay that would make it look 10x better. Last edited by ForcedInduction; 07-17-2008 at 10:25 AM. |

Mercedes backs many of the wood panels in the cars with aluminum or some other light metal to prevent splintering, it is said. So all Jon's panel needs is a zebranowood overlay.

I agree but even fake overlay looks bad. Why not do it with real zebrano. My pet peeve is removing the damn thing. There was a Russian? Ukranian? that did ALL of the console in copper. Didn't look half bad but I *like* the wood and or plastic that came in these cars. I am dying for a good set of Burlwood.

nothing like greenish copper and blue MB Tex...... I think it would look nice with the fake wood overlay material they use in the new cars. I like the look of the one peice all the way back rather than the filled in look of the ebay cup holder

I use a plastic cup holder which hangs conveniently from the window frame. Works like a charm.

i'd like one that matches the zebrano and still retain a coin tray

outstanding
My first impression was wow that's kewl. My second impression was I'd rather have a wooded console.
Perhaps a blackened or a browned finish would look more subdued. Very nice piece of work, I can't drive w/o a cup of coffee in the car. |

Black Wrinkle paint would make it fit right in in my 240D, but there are too many switch holes for my manual windows.
