painting it

Ok,
I'll paint one,
So far the votes are:

Black krinkle

The nice thing about the aluminun being .09 thick is that I have the tabs for the buttons recessed so all the buttons are actually flush. I could technically make a thinner version out of steel, the buttons would sit on top (still click in) and it would be painted and the final product would be cheaper totaling 42 to 54 cents.

Thanks
-jon

I'm in on this one too. Well.. maybe.

I've been considering replacing my aged wood trim inside with metal, but I wanted something more subdued. I personally do not like the grinder + cup brush swirls.

Suggestions:

Diamond plate - Tacky, but some may like it.
Engine turned. - Classy!
Linear polishing, either across or lengthwise.
Crosshatch polishing.
Anodized aluminum.
Powdercoated. - My favorite.
Carbon fiber.
Molded Vinyl/ABS. - EDIT - Black, MB tan, grey, etc?

If you offered a two-piece plate, rather than one piece. And the tray insert BLANK or offer options for modifications. I would also keep the switches above the deck level, one idea that occurred to me was carpeting the plate, or laying upholstery vinyl over it. The switches would disappear.

Personally, I would love to have a 115V 20A duplex outlet to extend my inverter, along with a simple rocker switch to control it.

But that's the point, some users may want an ipod holder, extra 12V outlets, etc. and having a one piece that is already drilled limits those modifications, and replacement blanks open the door to revisions.

Two piece. Make one for the climate, sunroof and related switch cluster and replacement horizontal trim for the dashboard and I'm down.

My setup would be:
Horizontal (passenger to driver) grain polishing on all parts (shifter plate, insert, climate, switch cluster, trim)
Either black or Carmine/ruby red low-luster powdercoat, kind of a satin look.

I'd be down for an engine turned version or a black krinkle style

do you think you could "delete" the cross fader if requested?

Crossfader delete

I'm both in on this one, and out.

Why not a block-off plate?

I've been scratching my brain about that crossfader. I want an OEM style switch to go in it's place to kill my subwoofer amplifier. But I've also considered relocating my sunroof to this spot. And thirdly considered installing updated mirrors, both powered and using this spot for an OEM-styled toggle between left and right. So confused!

Well, the day I spilt a jug of coffee in the console area of Candy, I found out the carpet mat in the storage area made a pretty good sponge. And mine was coffee proof. It didn't leak.

Looks awesome man.

Bet if you pwdr coated it black it would fit right in with the interior color scheme. Now you got me thinking... How much are you selling them for? Any thoughts of recessing a small area for change and such at the back of it? Ive got no ashtray anymore since my veg oil computer and gagues are now mounted where it used to go. Going thru tolls is always fun digging for change in the seats...

Oh yeah, a hole for cig lighter would be sweet too. I just have 1 dangling from a pwr line out of dash for cell phone, be nice to have it all in 1 spot.

Actually i would be in favor of you increasing the length of the entire piece, and covering up the small drawr that has the cig lighter and ashtray. That way we can put a gauge there, or can wire up the cig lighter so its more easily accesable.

well, I know what I'd like and you could probably sell them without any finished if someone wants to put veneer on them or do something different.

I used black krinke paint on my gauge mount that replaced the ash tray, and it was a very close match for the plastic "leather" texture used in the 240D.

I may be interested in on of these, but I don't have a cross fader or window switches. Do the early and late style hazard switch button openings differ?

I second those ideas. I also like the Don's idea of selling them unfinished.
