Korean Curse..

.
I picked up a Mercedes MB140D Van recently which is a SSang Yong Isanta with Merc Badging and an engine made in Korea under licence which is a merc OM602 Diesel. it has been off the road for 4 years ( it's a 2000 build) and blown a headgasket. Because of it's Daewoo connection parts are almost impossible to find.
It required a complete rebuild.i have checked and rechecked timing etc ...
I have cleaned and flushed the tank. New glow plugs and the ECU for the glow plugs works. Engine has plenty of Compression .
BUT. It will only fire if given a load of engine start and won't idle .It appears that it isn't getting any fuel on start or cranking speed. Idle speed is 700RPM if I could get it to idle..
Seeing as this is a Bosch equipped mercedes engine with different name can any one point me to a fualt finding chart(etc) where I can go through the fuel system and figure out what is going on here.
I

That engine was used in the 290 models in europe. If you can find information on a 95-99 E290 or G290 the information and parts should mostly cross over.

Its not the same as other 2.5L OM602 models because the 2.9L engine is direct injection.

Am assuming Lance is correct as he usually is....I see they have an ECU, shutoff solenoid and K40 relay although a different pump than my606. I'd start there (latter first) unless the ECU was changed for some reason or you suspect DAS issues.

Thanks Guys,I finally have it sorted. What I had to do was check the injection pump timing.(not easy in a cab over van ) and at 15 ATDC I was looking at the back side of the governor weights...
That meant I had to remove the headlights, aircon fan, radiator, condensor ,engine fan, polybelt and tensioner A bunch of jobs which takes about 1 1/2 hours .
Then I removed the pump and set it to the mark on the governor and locked it. Bolted it back ,which takes another couple of hours because of the tight box it lives in. Then plumbed it up,hit the key and it fired and ran straight off. Now I just have to overhaul the injectors when I can find a source of Bosio or Monark nozzles down here.
A few facts here. It's basically a om602 engine but with a bigger bore and stroke and larger crank bearings to give 2.9 liters. There is also a turbo version which has bigger rods and pistons to cope. The pump is the same but doesn't have an electronic idle control .In fact it has more in Common with the OM612 in that respect with vacuum controlled idle and stop canister. This engine would be a bolt in fit to a W201 190D (2.5 diesel) and the turbo version would surprise many a late model gas burner. Heads and sumps interchange too.
