where is the fuel sending unit located on my 1980 300sd and how do I access it?

do you mean the fuel tank sending unit?
that's in the fuel tank, you should be able to access it through the med kit opening in your rear deck...

yes i meant the fuel tank sending unit. I can get to it through the first aid kit???

Yes, take out the first aid kit, and the little plastic tray that holds it will unscrew and then you will have access to the fuel sending unit.
The sending unit has a 46 mm bolt which you can use a pipe wrench or (easier but more expensive) find a 46 mm socket to undo.
