Engine Transplant, Cost Estimate
I know I'm going to get a variety of answers to this, but my engine has a lot of blowby and a major leak, I'm thinking from the rear crank, because it only happens when its moving highway speeds, not in the garage.
Now, if I found a suitable engine (this is for a n/a 300TD), how much would you expect a shop to charge to change the old engine out and put in the new one (with, lets say, a labor rate of $75/hr)? I am not necessarily condemning the engine yet, but looking at price options. The amount of blowby is like a steam engine, and I know a lower end rebuild is really pricey. I am doubting the blowby could come from much else. Thanks- |

cost
I've gotten anywhere from $850to about $1250 depending on transmission, complicatiions, etc.

And I guess a follow-up is:
For those of you that have experience swapping engines, the car is a euro 300td, non-turbo... Would it be a lot of additional work to swap in a turbo 300td engine, and/or does the euro part make any swap less feasible? |

If its normal left hand drive then its a straight swap in if you have the exhaust, cooling and air filter systems on hand with the engine. If its right hand drive then the turbo and exhaust will not clear the steering system.

Thanks, Forced.
Anybody have experiences paying for a swap? I don't even have a backyard, so doing a job so big is out of the question. |
