Here I go again, remember me saying no more rust, now its well its not that bad...
So I haven't finished parting out my 1985 yet, but I picked up a 1984 300TD today. It looks like a bomb but I think its got potential to not be a bomb. It came to MA in 2001 from Florida. It looks like someone tried to use the jack or use the lift in a soft spot in the rear. Don't get me wrong there are some really weak areas with rust but then its really solid in others. The car definately needs its share of work. The nice part is behind the doors (lower seal) aren't really too bad. Guy paid $170 for a rear tail light lense and his son broke it. It has the cross bows for the roof rack which I'll keep, thank you very much. One front fender is new, the other is real nice. Its really just the rear of the car. Rear hatch is good. SLS has lost all fluid and the control valve is wet. Ride weird with this and a CV joint is doing weird things so the back end can get really odd feeling and noisy. Feels and sounds like a wheel is coming off. 193k. Poor guy paid $5000 last year for the car and it wouldn't pass inspection. Radiator is relatively new, car doesn't leak much fluid. I know this is going to sound odd, but I might just mig some sheet metal right over the jackhole points and just carry a hydraulic jack. It would be nice to do as little as possible to get it to pass inspection, maybe even some fiberglass work and then just convert it for veggy!
More time to think about this as I've got a lot going on and its at my parents house for now. Pages of pictures here:
