gone but NOT forgotten

Your thread has been buried, but I have not forgotten. Since I own a 300SDL, I was planning on driving it out to where the 300SD parts car sits and compare the tanks. Maybe I'll take my tape measure with me, too.

shucks! The w126 parts car is a gasser. Sorry. There is a 300SD in the boneyard though. Some of the boneyards punch holes in the tanks to drain --- hate it when they do that. I personally like to drain them and keep the "good" diesel.

You can also take the "new" tank to a good shop and have the holes welded if you can find a good deal on one.

I'm not sure in all cases but a few months ago, I replaced the tank in a 87 SDL with one from a 83 380SEL. It fit fine. I did change the tank screen because the one in the SDL was a little different inside the tank but the same outside. They both had the same lines, all the same size and was no problem at all.

EDIT: Oh, I did have to remove the tank restricter from the 83 tank but that wasn't a big deal.

Cool. Well if a gasser 126 tank can work, then I'm sure the diesel 126 tanks I'm looking at will be fine.
