It seems unlikely a weld repair will work in that instance. A good used turbo is the way to go...they hardly ever fail. I have never seen one like this before.

Cast Iron does not weld very well, and can cause cracking around the weld site. Just by a used, remanned, or new turbo. It may cost more, but will be worth not needing to remove the turbo again.

I don't know what engine that fits, it is not the 603 turbo though.

That's the turbo from an earlier Diesel. You might be able to adapt the whole thing or just the turbine housing that you need but even the turbine housing is different. Your turbo, if it's a Garrett, has a wastegate housing between the the turbine housing and the downpipe flange. The auction turbine housing has an integral wastegate. I think your exhaust manifold will get in the way of that arrangement.

What model of car is it that ate the turbo?
If it's a om617 engine, I am fairly sure I have 2 not in use that I could part with one of. (I bought a spare a while back, thinking mine was on the way out, and then ended up with another on the parts car...) If you only needed a compressor section, I'm sure I could split it off of the core and mail that! Definitely lighter than the whole assembly!

NFW I'd weld that, It can be done, but it will not last due to the cyclic heating and cooling the housing must withstand... when it fails again, you'll have a much larger hole in your housing and the joy of repeaing the entire R & R job.

Oops! I got distracted looking at the pic with the hole, missed the first pic entirely! (Or my browser decided not to load it, as it has been doing occasionally!)
NM then, no 617 turbo for you! :p
