Differential Interchangeable?

I asked this in a thread I already had started about my car but after not getting a single reply to this I decided to start a new thread.
Car forums are all about sharing information..

Are other Differentials interchangeable on a W201 (190) or am I stuck using one from a W201?

Please don't reply with one word, if yes. I need to find one soon.
almighty google did not have an answer for me or my terminology doesn't jive with you benz guys on google.

More data needed

Is this for MPG or power/performance?

Sounds like you just want a replacement rather than a rear axel ratio change. If that is the case you might well be limited. No responses just might be because nobody really knows that read your post.

Your model was kind of the lightweight series. A 300d of a simular vintage may be simular. I know nothing about if it is or the ratio is what you would want. Thats probably the one I would check out though.

It is also a possibility the gas 190 rear ends interchange. I suspect the ratio would be far different though. So impractable even if they fit and I imagine they might. You can check the two ratios for comparison though.

The car had a 3.47 swapped on inplace of the 3.07 and I like to cruise at 75mph without spinning the motor insanely high, I had a few old VW diesels so I know they are fine but for the sake of sound and highway mpg. If I wanted it to accelerate fastest I would leave the 3.47 on but it's a NA diesel, acceleration is a by product of travel.

However thanks to a member I ended up finding my answer on another forum.

A w124 SHOULD interchange, the most i might have to do is get different axles and or just take apart the rear and swap axle flanges (10min job a couple C clips)
I found a W124 differential with 200mi on it on ebay. so I think if it doesn't pan out to work I can easily resell it.
