WOW!!!!!

you didnt show those pics to your wife, did you?!!

well- I think that is a prime candidate for multiple fire extinguishers, judging from the wiring pics and recent post's. maybe a hard line halon system!

well, all jokes aside, good luck, and I can see some potential.

That is what happens when something just sits.

I think I would hang the steering wheel up on my wall and beg somebody to haul off the rest. But then again, I have a weak stomach.
Good luck with all that Mutt!!!!!

That is awesome!
Don't listen to all the negative people here, they have probably never seen the underside of a 40 year old truck chassis. It looks like ***** but holds up perfectly well. Just clean up that interior until later, and get back to us if that engine is running or not. They are very tough, so chances are it is only needing some minor attention. Marine folks uses the OM314 so maybe you can seek advice from someone in those circles if this forum can't help..

Good luck! Now is the time you need a good compressor and a air blow gun!

Mutt,

Great base for fun project to start with.

I think we should try to enter this in some Home Interior Make Over TV Show! They'll provide you with a fancy smancy interior designer and it will be swank on national TV or in the cable channels!

Rip out that carpet and any fiber board ,its already usless stuff anyway, the sandblasting of the chassis should be fun.I had an old mustang that I took on ,it came out to be pretty nice ride.good luck.

I've renovated several old motorcoaches, starting with my first one when I was 17. Once you remove all of the guts and clean it thoroughly, it's surprising how quickly thing start to get exciting.

The KVH levelers are probably worth the price you paid, so is the 'mog motor.

That whole leveler panel / hydraulic valve assembly can be rebuilt with a handful of small O-rings. The pump and rams are pretty tough, springs and seals go sometimes.

I don't know about that genset, LP or gasoline? It'll do the job either way but IMO LP is a pain to keep fueled.

Send me a PM if you need gauges and switches. The shiny switches on the dash genset panel aren't avaliable anymore, I have some. There is a matte-finish replacement otherwise. I also have a rack full of gauges and senders (NOS) about that vintage, if you have numbers send them to me and I'll see what I can find.

I've never done a renovation from that condition, but it doesn't really matter if you're tearing out decrepid or only outdated, it's all dumpster-bait. Have at it!

List of things I plan on taking (all this has to fit in a WRX):

box of gloves
20ton jack
6ton jack stands
a variety of 2x6 pieces
fire ext
00 gauge jumper cables (in case I need to jump the gp and starter manually).
chainsaw (tree in way)
sledge hammer
cheater pipe
first aid kit
towels
5gal pail
towing straps
torch
goggles
gloves
5gal fuel jug
lights
ext cords

Get there:

batteries
glowplugs
new charged battery
battery charger
brake fluid
penetrating fluid
wd40

The plan now: end of the month going to drive down there with two buddies. Leave Friday, get on site Sat AM as early as possible. I will handle engine/gp/starter. One friend will handle the brakes. The other will be responsible for separating the house power, lubing everying, cutting sewage, tree removal.

Hopefully the brakes are just a rotted clutch hose and it bled all out. Jim Murray says they are no longer making mbc rebuild kits, I find that hard to believe with the number still on the road. Anyone have insight into the MBC? I got the FSM (in german) covering this.I figure if its a busted slave (they are all drums does that make it a caliper?) I will just cap the line until I can find a replacement.

prolly alot easier to find parts for that on any continent other than NA, but good luck.

Brake wheel cylinders are fairly easy to rebuild (if you can find the rubber bits)- but you should hone them out. one option could be to pull them apart, and head to the FLAP store and start tearing into boxes to compare parts. this assumes they are similar to stuff commonly used here.

How about fuel and oil filters, oil change(once it is running?)

Sleeping bags, or are you gonna motel it?

how many miles for you, one way? you may need to bypass the diesel tank if it is rusted and sludgy.

good luck, I love them kind of adventures.
