I see what you are talking about now. I will have to buy one from the dealer or cut one out of a donor seat.

How much was it from the dealer?

The kit was $60 at the dealer per side, and it includes one of the longer brackets as well as two of the mounting bits where the rods slide in to (one with a lock - with the triangle piece - and one without). The triangle piece uses the middle pleat between the headrest posts, as a button that you can press down to release the headrest. Similar to the hidden button on the back of the front seats, except that one is pressed forward (from the point of view of the car) while the rear headrest button, you push downward.

I got all the parts but the long bracket from the junkyard car. I wonder if teh W116 with reclining rear seat has the same long bracket...

Reclining w116 seat? I tried w126 rear seats but they're riveted. Not sure if w116's are the same.

60 bucks per side? I assume that didn't come with the headrest support rods since you are using w126 supports.

Adding another Comfort - Outside Temp Display!

Today I added an outside Temp Display donated from a w126. My other cars have a temp display and it's very useful info to have. Especially when your traveling and may run across a below freezing area that may have ice patches. Or if my passengers want to know how much past 100º F (38º C) it is outside in Central California during the summer.

The display is in Celsius and pic showing around 75º Fahrenheit.

Here are the components that needed to be installed.

I got the idea and baseline info from forum member Biodiesel300TD here in this THREAD.

I took pictures of my install and will post the pictorial on another thread later.

The stock w123 sedan rear seat has one long rod for the mounting, without any triangle piece. The triangle piece attaches to the kit, which is the removable bracket, and acts to release the headrest from being locked (same principle as the front seat headrest button release)...

Wagon parts are different due to seat design. I believe the wagon headrests are also different, the rods are similar to the front seat headrests; this is the case with the w124 wagon we have also.

Rear headrests for the w123 have the bent rods which allow the headrest to function at that angle and with the more slanted rear sedan seats (as opposed to the more upright wagon seats).

Interior dome light with a Map light

Today I installed a front Dome Light with a MAP LIGHT. The map light is helpful in which it directs light to a small area for reading instead of lighting up the whole cabin. Great for not bothering your sleeping passengers . I seem to find these lights off a the 1984-1986 w201 190. It is a great upgrade for the later w123's with the timer delay Dome Light and 1st gen w126's.

EDIT: Based on MBeige's following post, I would think the map light was offered as an option.

As installed.

Weird, my car came with the dome light with map light already. 5-second delay works perfectly too.

Hmm. Good to know. Maybe that was an option. I have never seen one on a w123 or w126 that I knew was factory, just the standard Dome light. I always see them on the 190s though.

i too have joined the club!

got a rear headrest "kit" off of e-bay, as well as a set of regular headrests in the cream beige tex. got the extra support bars from deliveryvalve, who, thanks to this thread, his pics, and his help, made this possible!

i did cheat a little in that i installed mine without the triangular bracket release button. if i ever need to remove these, i have to remove the back seat (not that hard really, and i can't think of a reason to ever remove these). i'm a little annoyed that the eyelet rings put in the back seat are not the right color, but i'll live with it and probably paint them later. sitting back there is more comfortable and the loss of vision is negligable.

and it looks great, an aesthetically pleasing, relatively cheap and easy mod!

What color are the eyelets? Not black? You can get black eyelets from the dealer for $1.50 a piece. 126 988 01 82 (The retaining washers are $2.00 a piece. go figure! but you can reuse those if you can remove them with damaging it)

It's hard removing the eyelets once you've installed them very snugly (to prevent the upholstery from fraying). Is there a trick to this?

Squabble, we seem to have the same droopy headliner problem at the rear half of the cabin!
