I think I need to rescue this one

My friend who owns a local salvage yard, called me up today about a 1984 300D he just got in to see if I needed any parts. Of course, I was out there within 24 hours to pillage and was shocked as to what I found.

Apparently the car didn't start one day, so they just left it sitting for almost 4 years. The owners are regular customers of Bob's and have bought many used parts for the car over the years. It is completely rust free and leak free, with the paint and interior in pretty good shape.

250k on the odometer. A new battery awakened all the electronics, but no response from the starter. The hammer trick failed as well. All the fluids are there, including some very green coolant. Bob and I may try to pull start it next week, but I told him there is NO WAY I'm going to let him part this car.

I know he got it for a song, and has a soft spot for old W123s. Let's hope I can stop him and bring it home for a reasonable price.

Other than the hideous wire wheels and one PDR-able dent on the fender, it looks gorgeous.

That car does not belong in a junk yard.

There is so much of a hint of oxidation or rust on the entire body. The interior is leather, so its not faring as well. Before purchasing Ol' Turbo, Silver with Navy Blue was my dream color combination.

I have no use for another sedan, but I cannot let this car die. Surely I can pass it off to another forum member after some work.

Save it. Junk the wheels though.

Did you try "jumping" the starter by shorting between the two screws under the cover on the fender?

There will be somebody here on the forum that will gladly trade you some Bundts for those god-awful wheels. There always is.........
Very nice looking W123, and I spotted the leather right away.
My dream would be like Sunny and John's sleeper: silver w/ black. I can't stand the blue interiors anymore. Too bad too as I have 2 wagons with it currently and my first wagon had it also. Go figure.
What I wouldn't give to have that Sienna interior from the Squash in the white wagon......
Keep us posted on your progress and procurement. It is always fun to get another one of these and start in with the repairs and adjustments. Remember my theory on the older phone antennas.
I wonder if it needs axle boots.......
Now I have to go try and rid my gray matter of those wheel images......
BTW, ditto on the wire jumping at the terminal block on passenger inner fender.

**edit**
Geez, wanna send that blue dash down to Texas???

Ah, yes. I remember the wire jumping on Sunny's SD. What's the procedure again?

I saw the cell phone antenna and thought of you immediately.

I would never sell those wheels on the car. I would rather throw them in a dumpster than allow someone else to perpetuate the abomonation.

BTW, I figured out the jumping part. Passenger side, black plastic cover, close to the fender but on top of the wheel well?

Let it glow, then jump the wires and see if it turns?

Some people.....if the car doesn't start....repair it! I don't get why people will just "abandon" a car...especially a beautiful MB like that!....my friends had a tendency to do that too....they had a jetta with starting issues, rather than scrap it or part it or fix it, they let it sit in front of their house for 2 years instead.

Great find though!! Save this beautiful car!!! It probably just needs a new battery and starter!!

You got it.

Don't forget to light the wheels on fire first.
