Go to the first page of this thread and follow the link the details are on the first page of the link.
but here's the basic Info.

The place is the MB Classic Center, 9 Whatney, Irvine CA. 8-9 A.M. Saturday Morning Jan 10'2009. Then a drive up Angeles Crest Hwy. (mountains north of La Canada).

You are more than welcome.

No beer on the drive or at the Classic Center. There can always be a gtg after the drive at a watering hole or two.

Some of us are going to be in the area Friday night. I'll be at the Hotel Menage. Dieselchatter and I are having dinner there Friday evening, Always room for one more, (I think there might be beer there too...LOL). Others are meeting at the In and Out in Costa Mesa(no Beer there) Friday night after detailing their cars.

Thumbs up Mountain Running

The fan has no effect on cooling unless the AC is on and you're stuck standing still in Death Valley.......

Seriously .

Yes it's up in the mountains but my Mercedes Diesels go right on up no overheating atall .

Even the one that had tomato soup for coolant.....

If your TD has heating issues (it's not overheated until it pegs the gauge BTW) , adjust the valves then use Citric Acid Powder to clean out and de-calcify the cooling system complete ~ the dealer's stuff is $23.00 the Pound so I'd get some from a baking supply store .

See you all there ! I hope all you " detalied " guys don't mind average old Mercedes doing yeoman duty like they were designed to...

Post The Crest Route

It's simple ~ go North to the I-210 ans in La Canada , take Rt 2 North , either pull over at the North end of the bridge or drive up a mile and there's a pullout on the right , you'll see the gaily colored parade of old Mercedes hove into view....

You'll not get left behind if you pin the throttle like all good Dieselheads go once a month or so...

Wait ~ you're driving a M-110 gasser , right ? hell , you'll run right past even the Euro Spec. '85's...

sure it overheats when the ac is on and at idle, but also when going up a mountain slowly. I believe all diesels do that, hence the coolant temperature sensor that tells the cooling fan to switch on? That part of the harness is toast...

Thumbs up Please Indulge Me :

& define ' overheats ' as most think they overheat when they're doing just fine .

Have you tested the fan clutch yet ? . it should have resistance to turning by hand when the engine is hot and be easy to turn when it's cold... not tip play either ~ for & aft , is bad .

You can always lower the windows and put on the heater , that's plenty enough to keep it cool .

Seriously , try the Citric Acid Flushing , it'll flabbergast you with how much crud comes out if you follow the instructions , many don't properly de-grease the water jacket first and then blame the Citric Acid when it cannot eat the rust . mind you , it cannot damage the aluminum and plastic bits either .

M-110 gasser? Wasn't me

Thanks for the heads up on directions. I'm getting my car washed tomorrow. Or Friday.

Tyler, whereabouts will you have your car washed?

overheating is a big word. it climbs to the 100 degree mark when climbing a hill slowly. never in normal traffic. system is clean. I used to run my citroen to 114 degrees in spain on hot days with a faulty electric fan harness and they never had head issues, but mercedes heads I don't trust much. even the 17 I have...
I'll check on that fan clutch.
where can one find the instructions and the citric acid? I have searched for that stuff before for another diesel but remember giving up at some stage

On the steep mountain climbs my 300D would approach the 100 degree mark, but never go over.

Kornat drive, Costa Mesa is where I'll be washing.

I am excited to be able to be there on Saturday! This will be my first event ever with my Benz (been in 4X4 clubs, camping clubs etc). I think it will be fun! Not that it will happen, but if there are any break downs, there should be many experts around (and parts)to repair most any problem!

Slight Change of plans...

Any out of towners or locals wanting to clean their cars can still meet up at my grandparent's house in Costa Mesa... PM me for the exact address...

I will start in around 4:00, since it gets dark so early... The garage has very bright florescent lights for fine detailing, no washing though.

Rather than going to In and Out, we will travel to Menage hotel to eat with Charlie, Jim and Buzz.

Earthquake

Hey Tyler, did you just feel the earthquake? Welcome to California .

The damn thing was centered a mile from me. Felt like a bomb went off.

Just a tip, there's no street parking at the Menage or ANY Anaheim hotel that near to Disneyland so you have to pay $10 to self park or valet it for $12.

Definately go for the valet, and spend the $2, it's closer AND the valet guys are very careful with your car and the cars there are roped off from all the others, and can be retrieved quick, whereas the self park is much farther away PLUS, how would you enjoy getting your beauty, dinged by some tourist from Des Moines that flung open the door of his filthy Jeep Grand Cherokee against your car?

You tell ME.

We should do the dinner at about 7-7:30 and I am pushing for it because the price is a bargain for what you get. It's close to or at 5 stars, and I am from San Francisco and know good food when I eat it.

For about $25 i got a 5 oz flatiron steak in Bernaise sauce, asparagus and mixed veggies and garlic mash potatoes, AND a really really delicious Singapore Sling, AND a huge rich dessert....

Amazing.

I plan to be there for the car wash party too, my car will be a filthy mess after an 800 mile or so to get down there, I leave tomorrow morning early.

It would be cool if someone opened the Classic Center for us but that early that day I doubt they will.
