The sway bar on these benzes locates the top of the upright which supports the hub, so there is considerable stress put on it beyond what a simple sway bar only would have. It needs a proper connection which means a good weld prepared for correctly.

That's why I took it to it to a good welder to have the install done

Nice repair! Did you coat it with a decent paint? Also you might consider drilling a hole in the side of the socket and fill it with weld to spread the stress out some. It could still be done. Also a small open hole in the bottom might prevent moisture from building up in the joint.

Now get going on the body while you still have one.

Not what you want to find:

Driving the car felt like trying to hula hoop on jello. The steering would dart all over the place when you applied the brake.

I decided to replace both sides. Bar cut off with a portable band saw:

The new ends fit tightly on the bar:

Welded in place:

I'm very pleased with the quality of this kit.

The car has had myriad other problems, but the sway bar ends have been fine.

While it would be better if someone who actually had it done replied I have since 2007 when I joined no one has said that repair has failed.

Here is a non-welding option. However, it is best if there is still some of the projecting still there to keep the tap drill centered so it goes Stright in. After you drill it with the correct drill size you use a bottoming tap and thread the part you drilled, and you need a longer blot.

You are going to need some sort of tube to act as a spacer as the bare bolt is not as thick as the threaded tube is.
