the U tubing may look like its constricting but it straighten up the air to the turbo, i don't think Mercedes made that U pipe to decrease its performance, they know what they are doing.

EDIT: by the ways dose anyone know where i can do a dyno in Oklahoma....

LOL! A 180* U-turn is supposed to STRAIGHTEN the air flow?!? WTH? That goes totally 100% against every principle of fluid dynamics (ever study that particular subject? I have and so has just about every other engineer.)

They designed it in such a way to minimize the amount of restriction it adds, but they primarliy designed it to be able to mount the air cleaner above the turbo. If you've ever done any engineering, particularly for a large company, you know that 99% of the time there are compromises and tradeoffs in efficiency, optimal design, etc. to accomodate easier or cheaper manufacturing, packaging, etc.

To believe otherwise is a total fantasy.

Hey guys , give the fellow a break already!

Its not as if he has killed anybody here.

I don't care how it looks. If it works, that would be fine with me.

I doubt seriously though it actually has increased the torque any.

Not.

If the 617's filter is such a great configuration, take a look at the air filter setup on the turbocharged 60x and tell me why they changed from the 617.

Turning an angle will never result in more air flow than a straight pipe of the same length. Its basic fluid dynamics 101.

Sorry Actros,
I'm one of those "types" that cares how it looks. I can live without imperceptible performance gains in order to have clarity of layout.......

I was also tired of that growling/Vibrating noise that it was producing form the intake at least that was taken car of...Anyways this not my permanent setup (i should said that in the beginning of the form) i am still in search of the GM 3800 Series II intake, it just kind of hard to find one in my local junkyard, if i have taken welding in a vocational school & have some welding set, i already have a ton of scrap metal laying around that i could make a custom intake box...
