I'd check the transmission vacuum before putting in a kit. Excessive vacuum at the modulator can cause flaring between shifts. If you disconnect the vacuum to the modulator and the shifts firm up, then the problem is vacuum related.
Have you changed the fuel filters?

Well its a spring that you change in the valve body. I assume that it applys more pressure to the K1 clutch when it shifts to make it shift quicker and therefore not slip when shifting. K1 is assosiated with 2-3 shift.
