Are you sure a gas engine has higher egt's than a diesel, ive never seen a gaspot with glowing stacks coming up a steep pass before, seen it with a diesel..

LOL, I am not sure of anything.... but that is my honest feeling from what I have read in the past... one of the physics indications has to do with efficiency.... what is taken advantage of in the engine compared to what is wasted ... and we know the diesel is the winner on that....
Someone will show up that actually has EGT guages attached to their cars and tell us what their readings are....

You may be right there. I have had a glowing red turbo on my Daytona a few times, but only with questionable fuel.

I know on the ford diesel forums, the guys running EGT's generally back off about 1100 degrees.

Never ran egt on a gasser car before but on snowmobiles you don't ever want it over 1200

I had a similar noise problem about a month after my drive shaft support bracket/bearings were replaced. It turned out to be a bad replacement support bracket bearing. Shop replaced both again & fixed the noise problem. Maybe you should have it checked out. My noise started at about 25mph. Also, the colder it was outside, the louder the noise until the bearing warmed up from driving the car.

Well I sprayed the belts with a belt dressing and the noise didn't go away but it did change pitch and behaviour so I'm pretty sure we are talking belts or possibly a loose turbo hose. I was going to feel the turbo for back and forth play but it was freezing in Provincetown and I was working outside. So I just sprayed the belts really well and drove the 1500 miles to where I am now which is New Orleans, I will try to take a better look at the whole thing when I change the belts, I purchased all 4 of them from the store here to support the site.

I also noticed that the air hose that connects the turbo to the air filter housing can be pulled on and off with with a good wiggle, I wonder if part of the whinning noise I am hearing is a part whistle, my flat head screw driver was in Provincetown... if it had been really loose I would have bought or borrowed one, but instead I just drove the 1500 miles. Now that I type this I realize that was stupid.

Does anyone have a link to an easy howto on changing all 4 belts? I saw a howto on the alternator belt but haven't found anything on the other belts.
