Looked at an interesting car today....

In my ongoing quest to find a W124, preferably diesel, I went and looked at a fairly local car today.
What I found out is that this in merely a parts car. It smashed into a brick mailbox structure and destroyed the front right of the car. It was also driven by an elderly gentleman and there isn't a straight fender or body panel on the car. Rust is also an issue. Also the interior is sun baked and ruined for the most part.
But, this car does have some interesting bullet points. Can anybody notice the interesting items......[of course you can]
**btw, pics taken with my cell phone, and car was in the garage. poor quality**

Car, with damage-hiding bra:

Then under the hood it gets a bit more interesting:

Then, if you look closely, it gets very interesting on the inside:

I'm thinking of making an offer just to pull the more "interesting features".
Car hasn't been started in a year. I brought a battery jumper but the glow plugs weren't working. The strip fuse was gone. So I went to my truck and got an alligator clip jumper and connected it where the fuse would go. Got in and glowed it and all this smoke started pouring up from under the hood. And I mean a ton of smoke!!!!! Totally melted my alligator clip jumper, so there is some kind of tremendous short in the glow plug circuit.
Engine would spin but wouldn't start without the glow plugs. It wasn't turning near fast enough anyway.
Not sure what I will do as the wife just might shoot me in my sleep if I brought this ugly thing home.
Will sleep on it.........

Seems as if the "elderly owned" examples aren't always the creampuffs they're made out to be.

Yikes!
I would ask him if he'll give me $100 to haul it away and be pleased either way.

OK yall, I think you are not seeing the very important bullet points......
They are the only things that even make it worth contemplating.
The car would be hauled away for salvage after the "bullet points" were removed. Worth the hassle????
THAT is the question I'm muddling.......
**BTW, I'm married to the main hassle**

Apparently, it's a Euro, but to what extent are the desireable bits perhaps, "mashed up"? If the exterior is beat up, we can't be too sure about the mechanical components either.

On the car? Doors, glass, tailamps and wheels. Other than that, there appear to be appliances on the driveway.......with $300K to $500K homes in the background. Interesting.

Euro w124 sedan with an SLS pump?

Jimmy --- I have an idea; buy the car, take it to Rich's place, pull the stuff you want, and don't tell the wife!!! Don't even bring that car home.

Wow....a N/A 603 with a manual and self leveling, manual climate, and cloth seats! I saw one around here a while back, those are rare....it'd be a neat car to have in nice shape....

I wonder if they also have upholstered furniture on the front porch?

Now THAT is what I was getting. The SLS is a nice bullet point, but the engine/tranny combo is the only real value with the car.
Cloth interior is beyond gone. You touch it and you can feel the hardened fiber stuffing cracking, plus the cloth if very brittle.
The manual climate is cool, but if car is being trashed then it is too much of a hassle.
The SLS could be pulled off, but the value is minimal except for somebody needing components.
But that drivetrain is the lifted skirt and perfumed inner thigh of this car......

That could be brought back from the dead

If that was near me I'd definitely try to buy it. No question. I saved my CD from the crusher and it was in worse shape than that car.

I'm from the UK and thats rare even here. had a lot of N/A OM603 cars, but not many came with a manual, for that you have to look for a 250D or 200D.
