Car has rear SLS. Weird looking little bitty rear springs!! And I'm not real used to the W124 rear end set up anyway........
BTW, what is ASD anyway??
I would probably make a super low offer if I had some place to put it. But with the fierce anti-Mercedes sentiment of my concubinal apparatus, I had better not......
Still, I'm most tempted. That NA OM603 might be down a bit on power, but sure would be simpler, and from what I hear, a bit more robust.......

ASD is an automatic locking read diff. It's what the diesels got instead of ASR: If the rear wheels slip it locks the diff (using pressure from the SLS pump).

And although it has around 12 HP less than a turbo 617, it still has, what, 20 HP more than an NA 617?

ASD, as stated above, is a locking differential that uses hydraulic fluid to achieve 100% lock up.

I'll say one thing for the NA OM603. I would rather change glow plugs on that than the turbo engine.

Hey Jimmyl ,Ive got my 88 190d here in Houston for grabs , $1400 is my asking price .The bad first-,Needs an a/c fix, front end needs replacement parts ,wearing frt tires innerside, and a paint job.(hood and deck lid ,flaking clear coat) .Unknown mileage .Rust at jack points ,not serious .
The Good -tires ,brakes ,interior is tan and seats are good ,exterior grey, windows all go ,up and down except one ,switch I believe ,sunroof works.good heat.New shocks .Its starts well on cold mornings ,havent checked the compression but she starts like it has good numbers.I can pull compression if your curious enough to go forward.I get 35 plus hwy mpg .Youve seen her at the summer Centerville meet .Oh yeah ,99 clk rims all around.Im guessing $500.you could have her in tip top shape. If your trying to find under 2k I think I own what your looking for.

Never saw the huge clock instead of a tachometer on a car other than a w123 or older before. Another "interesting" point. Is that a euro thing or a non-turbo thing?

Hey Dave.
Any rust is a deal killer for me. Sounds like a great car if somebody needs a commuter car, and you can't beat the mpg of those things. I'm guessing it's an automatic.
Right now I'm looking for a nicer car for the fleet. Smash is my current great runner/driver but my ugly duckling. Only work it needs is a paint job so that fits my bill in that category. I was just looking at the W124 in question because I want a W124, and with the 5sp in that one I thought it might be worth a go. Uh, not so much........
Hopefully somebody will grab your little 190D. That is a good price, and I drove John's at the Tech Session and they are great little cars!
I see your stuff on Houston CL from time to time.....
