K1-K2 Superior shift kit question

Hello all,

To those who have done the superior shift kit for the k1 and k2 valves. Does the new spring (purple for k1 and pink for k2) replace the small spring PLUS the springs in the plastic holder AND the plastic holder itself? That is what I am reading in the instructions, but I just want to make sure. The way it looks in the diagram, the plastic holder was needed so the small spring had a place to seat.

Thanks in advance!

As I recall you are correct, the springs and little plastic keepers get tossed and replaced with the color coded Superior springs. You obviously don't toss the plastic piston itself !

What do the K1 and K2 springs control?

K1 = 2-3 shift
K2 = 3-4 shift

Can the K2 spring be replaced without tranny removal? When my car gets hot and has been driven a long time the 3-4 shift feels alittle soft. Will a new K2 spring fix it? Thanks, sorry to hijack the thread but I think it will be useful for someone else too.

You have to drop the pan and the valve body.
Everything has to be kept clean.

People on here have done the k1 and k2 without removing the valve body by using offset screwdrivers to take out the screws.

I think you mean K1 and K2 accumulators, not valves. The larger accumulator springs in the kit replace the entire original spring train, including the plastic parts.

Replacement of the K2 accumulator spring requires removing the pan and filter. The K2 control valve spring requires removal of the valve body and the separation of the lower half of the valve body from the upper half.

The Superior Kit has several possible options to solve that problem, including a stronger K2 control valve spring, a small accumulator spring and a large accumulator spring.

I would strongly recommend that nothing gets "tossed." You might need to put it back where it came from before it's all said and done.

Yes, you are correct. Thanks for clearing up the replacing the spring train question. Have you done this procedure? If so, have you seen a marked difference?

Which causes the soft shift? The accumulator or the control valve? Thanks

Yes. The improvement was been nothing short of amazing. But it took seven attempts to get it right. Regardless of admonition in the instructions to install the entire kit, I would recommend that you don't attempt to fix what is currently working well.

The kit provides new springs for both, each of which is intended to firm the shift. The accumulator spring is much easier to change, so I would recommend that you start there.
