Tricks for getting stuck window up?
Folks, I've got two bum regulators on my back windows in my '79 300TD. Not a problem only someone managed to accidentally get them both down about an inch....which sucks in the cold weather and especially since my heater is getting its wiring sussed out.....
So, I don't have the $$ for the new regulators (I was told around $100, is this right? How hard is the labor?). I've tried to man-handle them up with someone working the switch but they seem pretty determined to stay where they are. Anyone manage to get out of this situation successfull? I figured if I could just get them up I would get around to doing the regulator procedure come spring/summer....... Thanks ! mark in Portland |

I'm assuming you have put in a new fuse(Old fuses may appear to be ok but really aren't, replace it with a NEW one regardless.) and that you have disassembled and cleaned the window switches....
Run the heater until you've got the interior as warm as possible, and then disassemble the door(dieselgiant.com has a great pictorial for this). Harbor freight has a $7 trim removal tool kit that will help prevent breaking the snaps when disassembling. Remove the regulator, and use "mechanics wire" to hold the window up. Reassemble. Take the regulator inside and inspect, if the pins have sheared you can usually get away with having it welded back together. If the motor's blow it's $$$ time
