Help!

I drive a '84 300sd.

I replaced the ODO (all 3) gears earlier today. ODO and tach still not working! when I manuely turn the gears it works! however when I install it, nothing! what gives? this is my 1st time doing this as well.
also I used the link below as a guide:

http://www.dieselgiant.com/repairyourodometer.htm

conincidently, I didnt use any "thread locker" either, all my gears are plastic.

what else can I try?

thanks in advance,

Enrique

Check connections and fuses. When I pulled my dash it always blows a fuse.So now I disconnect battery. Now Tach issues could be like mine.Unscrew round amp under the hood.Make small bits of tin foil to go in socket holes.Screw back on,the pins should make a tighter contact.
carradio.com is where I get my gears, they rebuild speedo odo too.My parents live in S.A. too.

Enrique, I haven't done this job so may not be much help. See if there is something in this link that might answer your question:http://www.odometergears.com/VDO_MotoMeter_Gear_Replacement.html

If you bought your gears from them, they may be able to answer your question.

Samba, I just did this procedure a few weeks ago on my 240. I followed that dieselgiant guide and it all worked out for me. When you have your speedo out and the headset removed, turn the brass gear by hand UNTIL the trip counts to at least 100 miles. This will test that the metal gear is not slipping on the shaft when its having to turn the heavy loads. Also, when putting the shaft back through the odo numbers, be sure that it is really in there. If it is out too much the plastic/nylon screw type gear will not turn it. Be sure to visually inspect those plastic gears to make sure they are in contact with each other and that they aren't cracked or broken.

Next time be sure to name the problem you're having in the thread topic. Something like "HELP!" is less likely to get many views or responses and the admins may yell at you.

Check and make sure no plastic gear teeth jammed the odo some where.I used loctite (very small amount) on plastic gears. You may have to send Odo in.

Is the speedometer working?

I had a issue on my 300SD where the trip lever jammed and stopped the odometer from turning. When you reassemble the speedometer did you check that the trip lever functioned properly?

Note of caution: the W126 and W123 are different. IIRC, the DieselGiant website has info for the W123. The W126 is electrical impulse and the W123 is cable driven.

It sounds as if the motor or electronic chip may have a problem. Here is someone more local: http://www.speedometer.com/index.html
