PS return hose, can I use anything?

The one that fits on 2 nipples. I assume this is a low pressure hose right? 3/8? 5/8?

Heavy duty fuel injection hose should work here. This is the blue lined stuff. It is oil resistant.

Transmission/Oil Cooler hose would last the longest.

The souce I looked up (for an 84 300D) said the hose is 12mm ID.(Power Steering Hose; Low Pressure Return Hose; 12mm ID; Bulk
Please verify hose diameter prior to ordering. Sold by the meter.) and that was at >$13 per meter.
12mm= 0.4724 inches
(7/16"= 0.4375"), 7/16"= 11.1125mm
1/2" = 12.7mm

What? Use a none MB hose? Blasphemy .

The "O" fishial hose is sold by the meter, and you only need something like 19 inches.
then you will have an extra piece to use 20 yrs from now .

Close. Actually, I ordered a meter of each -- 9mm and 12mm; because there are 2 low pressure hoses and Phil said one hose was one size and one was the other. Well, actually both were the same size....and I had about 9 inches left over. Of course, I can't tell you if its 9mm or 12mm ID, of course. But the box of hose I got from NAPA was too small.

Unscrew the return fitting from the pump and take it to the store.

A meter is 39 inches, minus 9 inches leaves 30 inches. HMMM, Oh yeah, you need that extra hose for that looong ol SDL.
